Continuing Operations YTD September 2013 16

Impacts to AIAA Ended 2012(471K) and 2013(2.2M) with a negative operating balance  Budgeted 2013 anticipating negative operating balance (500K) Major Factors (see following charts):  overall 25% decrease (average) in conference attendance in 2013  Cancellation/delay of vended events Mandated a balanced budget for 2014  Used new reporting structure  Constructed Forum budgets as “projects” incorporating all relevant Institute activities  Overall budget cuts of $1.1M had to be identified 17

Net Margin by VP 18

FY13 Budget Variance Breakdown 19 $(1,567) $(1,278)$665 $356 $(1,824)

FY14 Operations by Reporting Group 20

It is all about Growth…. If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten. –Tony Robbins If you are not growing, you are dying. –Many It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. – Charles Darwin 21

Things in work (or coming down the pipeline) New Messaging  Purpose: To ignite and celebrate aerospace ingenuity and collaboration and its importance to our way of life.  Promise: To be your vital lifelong link to and champion for the collective creativity, brainpower, and achievements of the aerospace profession. Enhanced on-line engagement capabilities Growth into new technical areas Engagement of sections/YPs/Students More engagement with policy issues Collaborations with other organizations 22

New Event Model Complete move to the NEM in 2014 (NOW) 4 Forums – SciTech, Aviation, P&E, Space 3 “layers” – Plenary, Integration, Technical Plenary & Technical similar to before Integration to “tie it all together” Systems or multidisciplinary focus Broader issues (e.g., operational, policy, workforce and education, management) Integral with rest of forum program

24 Proposal for the Formation of a Pressure Gain Combustion Program Committee Timeline PGCWG Officially Established (2012) Over 30 members join Enthusiastically supported by TC’s Goal of eventual PC status from the start Working Group Works (2012-present) Regular meetings at ASM & JPC Reports to TC’s Recruitment of new members Invited ITAR session @JPC 2013:DARPA Vulcan Review Invited international session organized for ASM 2014 PGC sessions organized Status paper explored PC Participation Sought (early 2014) Informal conversations positive Written participation commitment requested via e-mail Essential roles & responsibilities presently under discussion Written Endorsements From HSABP, GTE, ABPSI, and P&C TC’s Presented to TAC NIS for Approval Vote Today Goals Provide focal point for all PGC related activities in AIAA Provide Synergy across TC’s, PC’s, and SC’s Bring Technology Integration to forums Visibility/Advocacy to “decision makers” Make Progress!
