3 Membership Upgrades Senior Member – automatic (via AIAA membership) 8 years professional practice/membership Associate Fellow – nominations due by 15 April, references due by 15 May Senior Member; 12 years professional experience; 3 references Associate Fellows Dinner during the Aerospace Sciences Meeting Fellow – nominations due by 15 June, references due by 15 July Associate Fellow; 5 references Aerospace Spotlight Gala Honorary Fellow - nominations due by 15 June, references due by 15 July Fellow; 5 references Aerospace Spotlight Gala 3 Actions:  Encourage members to upgrade in Newsletter, etc.  Nominate Section members for membership upgrades  Recognize upgraded members (letter, Awards Banquet)  Recognize years of service recipients (Awards Banquet) 25, 40, 50, 60 and 70 Years of Membership Recognition

4 Sustained Service Award A nomination form and score sheet must be received by 1 October Nominees must score at least 100 points on the score sheet Nominees are evaluated on  Years as a member  Student Branch, Section and Region Service  Technical, Publications and Institute Service  Special Assignments  Submitted Award Nominations (New) Membership Committee reviews and recommends Endorsed by the AIAA President and Vice Presidents Certificate and pin are presented at a technical conference or at a Section ceremony A maximum of only 20 Awards are allowed each year! 4 Actions:  Encourage members to submit nomination form  Nominate Section members for the Sustained Service Award

5 Special Service Citation The Special Service Citation is awarded for service to the Institute above and beyond the ordinary, which may be for a unique event or activity, or for many years of outstanding service. Request a Special Service Citation for members who have contributed time and effort that have substantially and uniquely benefited your Section during the Section Year The request must first be approved by the Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) and then by the Region and Section Activities Committee (RSAC)  Each Region has a limited number of Special Service Awards that can be given out  Section / Nominator is responsible for presenting the award 5 Actions:  Identify the member who’s service has substantially and uniquely benefited your Section  Submit form to Regional Director

6 Premier Awards AIAA Foundation Award for Excellence AIAA Foundation Board of Trustees  Eagle Sculpture symbolizes excellence  Organizations or individuals  Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala Daniel Guggenheim Medal  Joint Award - AIAA, ASME, SAE, AHS Aeronautics Award - International  Framed certificate  Engraved medal  Honorarium International Cooperation Award  International Activities Committee  Medal; citation; rosette pin  Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala Goddard Astronautics Award / Reed Aeronautics Award  Engraved medal  Citation  Rosette pin  Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala Distinguished Service Award  AIAA member with at least 5 years significant contributions -- Technical not considered  Engraved medal  Rosette pin  Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala 6 Actions:  Nominate Section members  Forms and deadlines are available on-line

9 Technical Excellence Awards Aerospace Sciences Aircraft and Air Transportation Systems and Operations Engineering and Technology Management Information Systems Propulsion and Energy Space and Missiles Structures Design and Test 9 Action:  Nominate Section members for any of the Technical Excellence Awards

10 Special Technical Awards Lawrence Sperry Young Professional Award: Presented for a notable contribution by a young person, age 35 or under, to the advancement of aeronautics or astronautics  Young Professionals Committee  Deadline: 1 July  Presented at Aerospace Sciences Meeting Engineer of the Year Award: Presented to an AIAA member who has made a recent (within the past two years) individual contribution in the application of scientific and mathematical principles leading to a significant accomplishment or event worthy of AIAA's national or international recognition  Nominations begin at the AIAA Section level and are submitted to your Deputy Director-Honors and Awards and Regional Director by 1 October  Nomination form, supporting materials and 3 AIAA member references required  Regional candidate(s) sent to the AIAA Honors and Awards Committee, who selects the overall AIAA Engineer of the Year  Presented at a technical conference or Section event 10 Actions:  Establish a local Young Professional Award, Young Professional paper competition or equivalent  Submit the winner as the nominee for the Lawrence Sperry Award Actions:  Establish a Section Engineer of the Year Award  Submit the winner as the nominee for the AIAA Engineer of the Year

12 Recognition at the Section Level Sections are encouraged to provide their own recognition  Review Institute level awards  Nominate a section members as a “pre-award” for Institute level awards  Review local award winners for Institute level recognition  Publicize Institute level award winners at section events  Write a congratulatory letter to Institute level winners in the section Establish local awards and lectureships  Alan Lowrey will discuss specific ideas for local section membership recognition 12
