2 The Northern Territories make up over one third of Canada’s total land area, as they stretch far north into the Arctic Region

3 The geographical features of the Northern Territories include rugged terrain, harsh climate, tundra, icy waters and subarctic forests.

4 Less than one percent of Canada’s population live in Canada's Northern Territories.

5 Almost half of the population of the Northern Territories is made up of indigenous peoples.

6 The Northern Territories have a different relationship with Canada’s federal government, that the provinces have.

7 Canada’s federal government has more control over the territories.

8 The gold rush in the Yukon Territory in 1896, brought thousands of prospectors to the area.

10 In 1993, Nunavut was carved out of the eastern portion of the Northwest Territories, making it the third Canadian territory.
