11 Decline of Egypt Pharaohs lost power to the priests of Amon-Re In 1370 BC, Amenhotep IV took the throne. He didn’t like priests and closed all temples to Amon-Re He also set up a new religion.

13 Amenhotep’s Religion Wanted Egyptians to only worship one god….Aton. He changed his name to Akhenaton, which means “spirit of Aton” Only a few accepted his new religion.

14 Amenhotep died in 1360 BC and his son in law Tutankhamen became pharaoh. King Tut….boy king….priests made him return to the old religion. Died after only nine years in power

16 End of Egypt’s Empire In 1150 BC Egypt’s empire was gone. Priests and Pharaohs fought for power. It was taken over by the Assyrians.
