4 LRPC Summary Notes Future SDM Planning and Status –Discussed the new SciTech Forum structure and makeup of the Executive Steering Committee and Forum Organizing Comm. –SDM and ASM General Chairs are now the Technical Program Chairs and lead the Technical Program Committee –Gaylord National Harbor limited to 45 parallel sessions, thus expect a 15-20% reduction in available sessions for SDM –SciTech participants can attend any track of sessions (SDM or ASM), only limited by their attendance at awards lunch –Keynote lectures may replace technical paper sessions next year, still evaluating options –The role of the LRPC will need to be evaluated again in the future based on the new Forum Organizing Committee framework –Future sites are San Diego in 2015 and Orlando in 2016

5 LRPC Summary Notes AIAA Director’s Report –Forum Organizing Committee (FOC) has taken comments from surveying the membership and direct communications; one example was a strong desire for maintaining the conference awards luncheons as separate events –FOC is still working SDM keynote lectures and may be limited based on conference facility accommodations in 2014 –TAC is addressing challenges due to travel restrictions within the government, may still impact next year’s conference significantly –LRPC recommendation to keep 2014 SDM conference separate was overturned by TAC to implement New Event Model SDM Award –Nominations due by 1 July 2013 –Presented at 2014 SDM Conference

6 LRPC Summary Notes 2013 54 th SDM Report: (Anthony Waas, Ajit Roy) –690 abstracts submitted, 590 accepted (83% acceptance rate) –498 papers uploaded for all conferences and forums (92 withdrawn) –703+ Registered for conference –124 student papers, a small reduction over the highest conference peak in Hawaii last year (157) – selection framework needs improvement –Lessons learned: Boston meeting room size is not adequate Paper withdrawal rate is stabilized by sticking with the original published deadline, no blanket extension was given 2014 55 th SDM Report: Lessons Learned (Anthony Waas, Ajit Roy) –Date:13-17 Jan 2014 –General Chair:Carlos Cesnik –Technical Chair:John Kosmatka –Site:National Harbor, Maryland – Gaylord National Hotel
