In Hispanic culture, the extended family is very important Grandparents often live in the same house as parents and children, or very close by Families often place the needs of the family over individual concerns Generally, Hispanic children learn to show great respect for authority, the patriarchal family structure, and extended family members Families are characterized by a deep sense of responsibility, rigid gender roles, and great respect for the elderly Families prioritize marriage, and children having married parents

Before we talk about descriptions, remember that nouns and adjectives have to AGREE in Spanish : El hombre alto La mujer alta El chico joven La chica joven

12 Es  Is Describing a person or thing in Spanish is very similar to describing a person or thing in English Elena is tall  Elena es alta (remember noun/adjective agreement!) Victor is lazy  Victor es perezoso Roberto is smart  Roberto es inteligente ** This rule only applies to one person (él, ella, usted) or one thing! We will learn how to talk about different subject pronouns next class

13 En tu familia … Using your family vocabulary, think of a member of your family and write three complete sentences describing them in Spanish When you are finished, read your sentences to the person sitting next to you
