REVIEW!! How to use comparatives in Spanish!!! By Mrs. Mac

More than with an adjective Wrap más and que around the adjective. Example – El es más alto que yo. (He is taller than me.) Example – Yo soy más seria que ustedes. (I am more serious than you (plural) The adjective always agrees with the subject that comes first in the sentence.

Less than with an adjective Again, wrap the menos and que around the adjective. Example – Yo soy menos alto que tù. (I am less tall (shorter) than you. Example – Nosotros somos menos cómicos que Robin Williams. (We are less funny than Robin Williams.) The adjective agrees with the subject that comes first!

The same as with an adjective Wrap tan and como around the adjective. Example – Ella es tan baja como nosotros. (She is as short as us.) Example – Nosotros somos tan inteligentes como el profesor. (We are as intelligent as the professor.)

Comparing without an adjective! Más que, menos que and tanto como stay together! Me gustan las hamburguesas más que los tacos. (I like hamburgers more than tacos.) Me gusta la clase de ingles menos que la clase de matemáticas. (I like English class less than math class.)

Tanto como The same as without an adjective. tanto como Me gusta correr tanto como pasear. (I like to run as much as I like to walk) **Tan como becomes tanto como without an adjective!!! Tanto agrees with the noun it is describing. Example: Hay tantas chicas como chicos en esta clase. (There are as many girls as boys in this class.)

Better, worse, younger or older Use mejor, peor, mayor or menor. Mejor = better Peor = Worse Mayor = older Menor = younger They agree in number with the subject. Add an es to make them plural.

Examples Mis abuelos son mayores que mis padres. (My grandparents are older than my grandparents.) Mi hermano es menor que yo. (My brother is younger than me. Los Cardinals son peores que Los Saints. (The Cardinals are worse than the Saints.) Chocolate es mejor que galletas. (Chocolate is better than cookies.)
