13. THE TROUBLE WITH TEXAS 1836 The Battle of the Alamo. The Goliad Massacres. The Mexican Army ambushed at San Jacinto. 1837 Jackson offers to annex Texas. Why is that a problem? 1837 Texas petitions for annexation. Awkward. In 1845 Texas would join the Union as a slave state.
