QUESTIONNAIRE 18 QUESTIONS –Buses –Roads and pavements –Traffic calming THANKS TO –Jo Ellis –Committee –85 people who filled in a questionnaire About transport providers Are you a bus/coach user? ……………………………………………………............ Yes/No 2 Which bus route do you use regularly? Bus Route/numberSatisfiedDissatisfied 3. Do you feel that drivers are adequately aware of passengers’ needs?...................Yes/No 4. Do you have any issues relating to public transport e.g. journeys to hospitals/stations? _______________________________________ _________________________________ 5. Do you think there are sufficient bus shelters?..................................................... Yes/No

TOPICS COVERED BY SURVEY Bus route satisfaction Drivers Bus Shelters Bus Beefs Community Transport Communicating – do we? Roads and pavements Traffic calming Cycle Tracks The Detail Food for Thought Past & Future Main Points

BUS ROUTE SATISFACTION The timetables of No 5 do not allow change of bus from Ilkeston to Draycott at LE to 'fit in' particularly on Sundays etc No 5 buses far too many destinations - very confusing No 19 Sandiacre to Long Eaton very good service but not enough timetable information (leaflets). Times have been changed but not on the bus stop versions

DRIVERS Buses around 8.00 am sometimes fail to turn up causing problems with appointments at QMC Petersham Estate bus always late Some drivers don't lower the step for disabled people - just prams

SHELTERS Vandalised shelters are very slow to be repaired The shelter opposite to Long Eaton Library should be improved Shelter needs cleaning more often Efforts to provide shelters are hampered by vandalism - we see a lot in our area (Sawley) - why spend money on shelters to see more money spent repairing them

Shelter on Wilsthorpe Road, Breaston

Shelter on Beresford Road, Sawley

Inside the Sawley Shelter

HOSPITALS There aren't any buses to Ilkeston Hospital I would like to be able to catch a bus from Derby Bus Station to the DRI Co-ordination of routes from Sandiacre to Ilkeston Hospital 23 OF OUR SURVEY HAD A DISABILITY

OTHER BEEFS Unruly school children using bus service Increase bus services to new estates Westermans & Penny Field Estate Bus station urgently required There is no No 5 bus service to/from East Midlands Airport on a Sunday, and only runs every 60 mins to make matters worse

ROUTE 5 DESTINATIONS Long Eaton (Briar Gate) Derby Loughborough

COMMUNITY TRANSPORT 7. Do you use any of the following free transport Asda free bus 4 Tesco free bus 2 Community Transport 7 Community Transport schemes operate in many parts of Derbyshire to provide transport for voluntary organisations, and for people who are unable to use ordinary public transport.

ROADS & PAVEMENTS From what I see, roads are good, but some pavements i.e. Station Road is poor, I tripped and fell Broken & sunken pavements slabs uneven repairs leave huge puddles Some pavements have no drop down for mobility scooters They are in desperate need of repair

TRAFFIC CALMING Humps are a waste of time and very dangerous Get rid of the bumps Too many bumps and cameras OK but not fining for £60 for 33 mph More attention needs to be paid to vehicles parked on pavements and cyclists using them! LE has far too many speed humps & they are far too high damaging cars Speed cameras seem to work best in my opinion There are more road repair bumps than speed humps in Lime Grove

TRAFFIC CALMING Speed limit is too high on Derby Road from Wilsthorpe Island to College Street re cars coming from side streets

COMMUNICATING – DO WE? AreaQuestionYesNo Transport Providers Have you ever had cause to write to a transport provider? 24 Were you satisfied with the response? 89 Routes & Fares Are you satisfied with the level of communications from transport providers in respect to Changes to fares 2241 Changes to routes 2722 Derbyshire County Council Have you ever made a complaint to Derbyshire County Council regarding the state of local roads, pavements or street lighting? 22 If so did you get a satisfactory response? 615

CYCLE TRACKS Cyclists should not use pavements to speed on Also should be made to use lights so people can see them A white line 2 ft from the kerb not good enough for cycle lane

CYCLE TRACKS When the hedges near cycle tracks are trimmed, don't leave thorny twigs on cycle track

THE DETAIL Fare from Briar Gate to Petersham Hall is 40p can get to Long Eaton for 45p its disgusting (cannot walk far) There are more road repair bumps than speed humps in Lime Grove Bus pass not valid from Beeston to Long Eaton

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Road humps cause me a lot of pain because of arthritis and lower back pain I feel they are unnecessary as they don't stop people from speeding Speed cameras nothing to do with road safety - cash machines If you open up a train station in Long Eaton, you would alleviate some of the traffic congestion around The Green. Unfortunately I doubt that anyone on the Town Planning Committee uses public transport

PAST & FUTURE DCC should look more carefully at widening the bridge at Sandiacre traffic lights & consider M1 access at new junction for Stanton Ironworks

MAIN POINTS Bus services to Ilkeston Hospital, Derby Royal Infirmary and City Hospital Confusion over Route 5 destinations from Long Eaton outwards 79% not satisfied with their local roads & pavements Are we using Community Transport enough? Do we complain in writing to the authorities? Reduce the nuisance of road humps in our area

ONE SATISFIED CUSTOMER Always pleasant journeys
