2 ESRI stands for E nvironmental S ystems R esearch I nstitute  Started in 1969 by Jack and Laura Dangermond who designed a system for landuse analysis  ESRI still promotes environmental sustainability and designed its US Headquarters campus to avoid interfering with any trees on the site  The ESRI International User Conference now attracts over 14,000 delegates  ESRI provided GIS support for 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts

3 About ESRI (UK)  Exclusive UK Suppliers of ESRI Inc products  Special relationship with ESRI Inc (some core software written in UK)  Create UK products e.g. Crime Analyst, LocatorHub, Ordnance Survey Productivity Suite  Largest pool of GIS consultants in Europe = 120  Largest GIS supplier in the UK = 4,000 customers  Privately owned and financially stable
