2 Research and Intelligence Unit (1) “Worcestershire County Council and our partners are responsible for delivering high quality services and offering value for money. The R&I Unit is here to support local public service organisations, primarily the County Council, in meeting these obligations. We do this by advising members and officers of the most effective way of allocating resources. We work to ensure the views of local communities are taken into account in the decisions of public bodies and aim to enable the public to be more informed about the characteristics of their area. We fulfil these aims by gathering, analysing, interpreting and presenting necessary intelligence.”

3 Research and Intelligence Unit (2) Our work areas over the coming 12 months include: Worcestershire Viewpoint (with Districts, Fire and Rescue, NHS) Budget consultation for County Council PLACE Survey? Performance Management (with Districts and other partners) Local Economic Assessment including examining business consultation (with Districts and Chamber of Commerce) Annual Review of Worcestershire’s Sustainable Community Strategy Areas of Highest Need Community Researchers

4 Research and Intelligence Unit (3) Our work areas over the coming 12 months include: Joint Strategic Needs Analysis of Adult Health and Well being (with NHS) Community Safety Strategic Assessments and Multi-Agency Tasking (with Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships) The impact of the recession on the VCS Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (with Children’s Services) Child Poverty Assessment Duty Housing Needs Surveys (with Community First, District and Parish Councils) Financial Benefits modelling of Supporting People Area Profiles

5 Area Profiles Initially produced for Elected Members following 2005 elections Updated and significantly revised after 2009 elections Information about locality and comparison areas Large amount of information in one place Will update on a continual basis as new/updated data is available Reduce number of ad hoc requests Evidence base for policy development and monitoring

6 Area Profiles Opportunity for approach to be shared across Worcestershire Partnership (no cost for system or R&I support) – particularly District Councils Once set-up – easy to update Have been working with NHS on Joint Strategic Needs Analysis Mapping for some years

7 Area Profiles Available for each Electoral Division Evidence on a range of issues, including: Population and household structure and change Economy Crime “Customer Insight” Qualifications and Skills
