16 Activities, Events International Wine Tourism Conference, Italy 2012 / Thomas Schilde / 01.02.2012 16 In February the festive season begins in the Palatinate with many Carnival processions, shortly after the wine festival season starts - with the almond blossoms festival in March. The seven times ten centimeter small calendar, which is printed in an edition of just under a million copies has nearly 186 Palatine wine festivals, as well as further 395 events to celebrate and relax as well as 14 car-free experience days and 25 wine fairs. The current edition is now available: 32 pages packed full of events make you want on a trip to the Palatinate. Wine Festivals, Wine Fairs and Festivals Palatinate celebrates !

17 Aktivitäten, Events International Wine Tourism Conference, Italy 2012 / Thomas Schilde / 01.02.2012 17 Cycling will be capitalized in the adventure region Palatinate. The region offers the pleasure as well as the sporting cyclists, such as the mountain bikers, a variety of interesting routes and challenge levels. Best experienced this within the framework of organized events. Adventure days with mostly blocked streets are held in all parts of the region. One of the highlights is in each year the "Deutsche Weinstraße adventure day" in August, where the "Deutsche Weinstraße“, along its entire length of 85 km, for all traffic is locked and is only pedestrians and cyclists available, with the food and drink in the individual wine villages comes not too short. Cycle Adventure Days

18 Activities, Events International Wine Tourism Conference, Italy 2012 / Thomas Schilde / 01.02.2012 18 The adventure region Palatinate is located on the Rhine, on whose banks each year the Carnival has its strongholds. So a common Carnival procession held in Ludwigshafen / Mannheim annually with over 100 groups and cars. Local customs is in each of the individual wine-growing communities at home. Partly the traditions go back over the centuries, such as the annual "goat auction" in Deidesheim and the “St. Martin play" in St. Martin. Around the year everywhere traditionally celebrates fairs like “Kirchweih" or "Kirmes". All guests are welcome to do so. The election of the "German wine queen" in Neustadt an der Weinstraße with a huge winefarmer procession has also tradition. At this occasion every year hundreds of thousands spectators stand at the roadsides to celebrate it.

19 Activities, Events International Wine Tourism Conference, Italy 2012 / Thomas Schilde / 01.02.2012 19 About one million wine bottles - red, white or rose - rest 12 meters deep in the vaults of the winery of BASF in Ludwigshafen. In addition to some 600 national and international products from the most important wine growing regions of the world, the Winery offers also over 100 Palatine wines directly from the wine growers of the region. The BASF Winery regularly conducts wine tastings. The chemical group is one of the largest wine merchant in Germany: by the way. Sales of the wine cellars at the BASF headquarters in Ludwigshafen was last 5.6 million euros. It is a rather nondescript building a few meters outside of giant BASF chemical complex in Ludwigshafen, which houses the winery. Numerous wooden boxes from around the world stack up in sober held and exact temperature controlled rooms, almost till under the ceiling. Just under half of the wine the most from the nearby Palatinate comes from Germany, which in turn. But large inventories of Bordeaux wines and wines from other parts of the world are here waiting for buyers.
