Lunch/Recess 7 th and 8 th grade will have 30 minutes total for lunch and recess. 7 th grade will go to the cafeteria for lunch first. Then when the monitors dismiss you, you will go to recess for the remainder. 8 th grade will go to the playground first. Then when the monitors dismiss you, you will go to the cafeteria for the remainder. Middle school students MAY NOT use the playground equipment or swings. Middle school students are to be under the ramada or on the basketball courts. “Awwww we can’t use those?! That’s lame!”---It’s only 15 minutes…you’ll live.

NO! You leave the room when your teacher dismisses you! If the teacher has to hold you a little bit over the time the clock says because she is teaching—YOU WAIT!

What do I do if I need to use the restroom? Try to go before/after school and at lunch. In classroom situations; Wait until I am not teaching (this means you are working independently on an assignment and I am NOT directly in front of the class going over a lesson or procedure) DO NOT raise your hand during a lesson to ask to go to the bathroom-if it is an emergency, simply make eye contact with me and mouth “bathroom” and I will nod my head yes for you to go. Ask for permission Bring bathroom pass to me with time and date filled in Sign out on the bathroom log in your classroom Make sure to sign back in when you return

There is a restroom in the corner of our quad. Use that one when you are in this area

I use up all my bathroom passes and need to go? -If its an emergency, your teacher should understand. Meeting up with your gf is NOT an emergency! I see vandalism/a problem in the bathroom? -Please report it to your teacher IMMEDIATELY so you don’t get blamed for it!

What time can I enter campus? 8:30 You are NOT permitted on campus before this time unless you are eating breakfast-and then you MUST remain in the café until 8:30 if you are eating breakfast (starts at 8:10)! **Or unless you have a club meeting or scheduled appointment with a teacher

ALL 7 th and 8 th graders need to report directly to the quad when they get to campus (unless eating breakfast). You are NOT permitted on the playground/near the flag pole.

You are permitted to enter your teacher’s classroom WHEN HE OR SHE COMES TO THE DOOR AND INVITES YOU IN! DO NOT: Open the door and continue to ask “can we come in” Bang on the door loudly trying to get your teacher’s attention Go to the bathroom and take your sweet time because your teacher isn’t letting you in Throw/drop off your backpack in the classroom until your teacher invites you in

Can I go to the nurse? The nurse will not see anyone until 9:30 Nurse Brenda’s lunch time is 1:30-2:00 You may only go to the nurse if you exhibit one of the following B’s:  Bleeding (need more than 2 Band-Aids)  Breathing (are you/can you) Chest pain?  Bug Bite or sting  Brain (did you hit your head)  Barfing  Broken bones You must have a pass from a teacher (even for personal problems) Do not go to the nurse directly from the playground without a pass-you will be sent back to get a pass!

Lost and Found What if I leave something behind in here? Check where each teacher keeps a pile of lost and found items in their room. What if I lose something somewhere else on campus? If it is something expensive….You shouldn’t bring it to school, but if you did, and lost it…check with the office or let a teacher know. If it is a jacket or lunch bag, look for it in the cafeteria.

I’m thirsty…… Can I get a drink? We are fortunate to have a drinking fountain in our classroom. If you do not like the water in my classroom, then you may use one of your bathroom passes to get a drink at the fountains by the bathroom. OR for.50 you can purchase a water bottle from your teacher.

CELL PHONES/PERSONAL DEVICES Middle school teachers will allow students to use their electronic devices between classes and during lunch/recess. It is a student’s responsibility to put their electronic devices away before they enter the classroom. Electronic devices are ONLY allowed in class if a teacher specifically gives permission for their use during that class period only. Students who bring electronic devices to school do so at their own risk. DVUSD and Stetson Hills assume no liability of lost, damaged, or stolen devices. Should a staff member feel a student is being disrespectful or not following the electronics policy and putting it away when asked, they may choose to issue a detention or write an office referral. You have times between classes to text your mom, don’t do it in class!!! Phones should always be on SILENT.

P.D.A. aka Public Display of Affection  KISSING OR INAPPROPRIATE TOUCHING IN PUBLIC 1. WARNING 2. Detention 3. Office Referral HUG AND RELEASE! 18

How can I check on my grades??  POWERSCHOOLS…POWERSCHOOLS… POWERSCHOOLS  You can see all of your grades-any time- on Power Schools.  Please learn the codes in POWERSCHOOLS (missing, late, excused)  If you don’t know your log in, you can get it from the from the front office.  WRITE IT in your agenda. 19

I’m hungry, can I eat a snack in here? The BEST piece of advice here is this: ALWAYS ASK YOUR TEACHER FIRST!!!! We do NOT have a “snack time”-and if you eat a good breakfast and pack/eat a good lunch, you should not need to eat in class. There may be times your teacher gives out candy or there is a class treat, but you should NEVER break out food/drinks and just start your own little snack party!

May I chew GUM? NO! (It is not allowed on campus!!!) And contrary to what you may hear-we DO NOT allow it in middle school!

Dress Code  Any clothing that detracts from the learning environment is not acceptable.  Shorts must cover the entire buttocks  Shirts may not expose bare midriffs, bare shoulders, not be deeply or narrowly cut in the front, back, or under the arms. Halter tops, spaghetti straps, and strapless tops are not acceptable. Clothing that exposes undergarments will not be tolerated for males or females.  No bare feet or slippers.  No hats nor sunglasses may be worn inside the buildings.

Safety Concerns Fire Drill Procedure Lock Down Procedure Rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, go- peds, etc. are prohibited on all Deer Valley Unified School District campuses. School ends at 3:30. Unless you are staying for tutoring, clubs, sports, or detention, you must leave the campus.

Attendance   Please do your best to attend school every day so that you receive all the information you need to be successful in your classes.  Should you miss school-PLEASE remember that you are NOT the only student in 7 th grade-your teachers are BUSY! Email/call/text a RELIABLE (know what this means) person in class to get the information from  Go to ALL your teachers websites and see what the lesson was for the day  EMAIL/contact your teacher on Edmodo and ask for any notes/presentations/information you may need  Most of all-GET BETTER and DON’T come back until you aren’t contagious anymore!!!

Be Prepared  Come to class ready to learn.  Be mentally, physically, & emotionally ready.  Bring your tools.  Pencil/Pen  Eraser  ISN’s or other folders  Colored Pencils  Glue sticks  Scissors

BE POLITE Give equal value to everyone. Show dignity & respect to everyone and the school. Zero tolerance for put downs. You have entered the happy zone!

How to leave class  The clock does not dismiss you, I do.  When dismissed, make sure your desk or table is aligned in its row neatly.  EVERYTHING is cleaned up…I’m not your maid so clean up after yourself.  Walk out the door and quietly proceed to your next class.

Behavior/Discipline General 3 Strike Rule: Warning, Detention, Office Referral Every issue is different, so different issues may receive different consequences. All middle school teachers and special area teachers keep a behavior log. And we all have access to it. So if you’re behaving poorly in one class, then do the same thing in another, that is your second strike. This is to hold you accountable for your actions and to help you make better decisions in the future.

What is RTI????? Grade Checks Class Meetings Skill Builders Time to receive help from teachers (Must sign out of teacher’s room)
