African Slavery The goal of the Europeans was finding cheap labor Millions of natives died from disease and others from the harsh work – a new supply of labor was found in Africa Slavery lasted for about 300 years, ending as the different countries gained their freedom from Europe

Descendants of the African slaves are a part of the Latin American culture Most live in areas where plantation farming was important People with only African ancestors or people with both African and European ancestors (mulattoes) live in large numbers in these countries They represent about 60% of Cubans and 50% of Brazilians
