2 Information about the library
Location The library is located on one side of the Academic Building – Building 200, closest to the Administration building 100 – on the Bainbridge College Campus Collection The library has a growing collection of over 35,000 books Computers The library has a computer lab which houses 11 computers with access to the Internet and Microsoft Office. The library also has 10 computers and three OPAC computers located in the general reading room that currently provide access only to the Internet for research purposes. However, we hope to soon add Microsoft Office to the 10 computers so that assignments can be completed when the lab is occupied

5 Library Guidelines Always have your updated ID with you while in the library. Students can update their IDs at the beginning of each semester in the student center No food or drinks allowed in the library Reference materials may not be checked out and can only be viewed inside the library Books may be checked out for 28 days and renewed twice Please do not leave unattended children in the library Computers are to be used for research purposes and any viewing of pornographic material is forbidden All cell phones are to be either turned off or on vibrate while in the library

6 Circulation Policies Bainbridge College students, faculty, and staff are all eligible to check out an unlimited number of materials from the library. Community patrons are also eligible to check out two books for a twenty-eight day period.

7 Reference Services Anyone on the library staff will help you to find information that you need. Library staff can provide one-on-one library orientations to better acquaint you with the library. If you need assistance feel free to ask at the circulation desk or by at We will make every effort to respond to your within 24 hours.

8 Reserve Materials Many instructors put items on reserve that are required reading in their classes. All patrons must have a Bainbridge College ID to check these out. Some of the books on reserve are located in the general reading area and can be checked out for 7 days at a time. 48-hour reserve videos, which the librarians will get for you, can be checked out by Bainbridge College students. All reserve materials located behind the circulation desk cannot be checked out and must remain in the library. They can be signed out and copied while in the library.

9 Online Catalog (GIL) From the Bainbridge College Library’s homepage select Online Catalog (GIL). This will take you to the catalog so that you can search for your topic. If you are unsure of exactly what area you’re looking for, you can search by keyword by entering one of more words related to the topic. This will usually give you a lot of results. If you what to be more exact, click exact search and that will let you search by the title, author, or subject heading. If you are looking for a certain magazine you can also check to see if we have it by entering the title and selecting Journal Title.

10 GIL Express GIL Express is an initiative of the University System of Georgia that provides access for our students to the online catalogs of all colleges in the system. Through GIL Express Request items can be requested and you will be notified when the items arrive. All you need to know is how to access your account and you can request a book from another institution.

11 Accessing your Account
To access accounts, the students need to access the library’s Online Catalog (GIL) by clicking on the library tab on the Bainbridge College webpage and then selecting the Online Catalog (GIL) tab, which is located on the left side of the page. Select Access my GIL Account on the right hand side of the page Make sure that your home institution is Bainbridge College Enter your library barcode number or Social Security Number Enter your last name and click Logon This takes you to your account where you can see what books you have checked out, renew books online, check the status of any GIL Express requests.

12 Interlibrary Loans/ILL
If we do not have an item in our library Bainbridge College students and staff may request it from other libraries. All book requests need to be made through GIL Express. Journal article requests can be made through Interlibrary Loan by either putting in a request at circulation or online by selecting the Interlibrary Loan tab on the library homepage. These items can take anywhere from 5 days to two weeks to reach the library and will be of no cost to you.

13 GALILEO GALILEO stands for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online.
This is a World Wide Web-based virtual library that provides access to multiple information resources. All participating institutions can access over 100 databases with thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals. Over 2000 journal titles are provided in full-text. Other resources include encyclopedias, business directories, and government documents. GALILEO can even be accessed from home by use of a password obtained from Access my GIL Account on the Online Catalog (GIL) webpage.

14 Searching GALILEO To access GALILEO click GALILEO Online from the library homepage or from any other computer with Internet access. Once at GALILEO you can search by either entering search terms into the Quick Search option, which may return a great many results, or by selecting a database. To select a certain database, you can click on your subject area on the top tool bar or click on List Databases A-Z in the middle of the page. One of the most popular databases is Academic Search Premier which indexes articles from many periodicals covering many subjects. Make sure to click full-text when searching so that you can get the full article and, if it’s for an assignment, click Scholarly (peer-reviewed).

15 Other Library Services
The library provides access to many periodicals that are kept in the library against the front wall of the main entrance when current. Older issues are bound and kept behind the computers in the reading room. The library also provides access to back issues of periodicals on microform which can be accessed in the library and printed for 10 cents a page to be paid at circulation. The library has a copier that is available for student use and costs 10 cents a page. The copier has a changer that accepts $1 bills. There is a cassette duplicator in the front of the library that can copy audio cassettes that are not copyright protected. Students may print from any of the computers in the library but only 10 pages and one copy may be printed at a time. Printing is provided through the Bainbridge College student technology fee. The library staff will gladly help you with any of these services.
