2 HSCL Function The Health Sciences Center Library (HSCL) is the main source of health information for the faculties of Medicine, Allied Health, Dentistry and Pharmacy. Each section is highly dedicated in providing our faculties with up most professional services and with the latest medical information. 3 Library Sections The HSC Library is divided into the following sections: Acquisitions Acquisitions The primary goal of Acquisitions is to purchase library materials for the library that are essential for teaching, research, and clinical purposes. Cataloging Cataloging The Cataloging section is responsible for the cataloging and final processing of all library materials received by the Acquisitions Department. Reference & Periodicals Reference & Periodicals This section is responsible for providing reference information queries, assisting users in finding material and performing online searches. Automation Automation Is responsible for assisting library users in accessing medical information through the HSCL on-line databases and electronic resources. This section also handles check- in and check-out for audiovisual items. Library Systems Library Systems Is responsible for providing technical support to HSCL staff, and designing and updating HSCL websites and databases. Our resources include: Library Catalog, Databases, Periodicals, Union Database, HSC Publications, Kuwait Health File, Dissertations & Theses, and Digital Collection. You may access full text journals on-line by accessing the HSCL Journals List and databases such as EBSCO journals, Science Direct, Journals@Ovid and Academic Premier Journals. Periodicals Union Database is a joint venture of medical libraries in the Arab world. It is developed with the objective to access regionally available medical literature and to widen the scope of resource sharing between the co- operating libraries. 10 HSCL Resources (Cont.) HSC Publications HSC Publications HSC publications are accessed on-line. HSC Staff who wish to add their publications may submit their abstracts on-line. Print format of the publication must be submitted to the Automation department in the library. Kuwait Health File Kuwait Health File Kuwait Health File is also accessed on-line. It attempts to include all publications written about Kuwait and / or by Kuwaiti authors in the fields of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. The Kuwaiti Health File contains fields for journal articles, books, book chapters, Conference & Proceedings and Reports. Authors who wish to add their publications may submit the printed format to the Automation Department in the library.

11 HSCL Resources (Cont.) Dissertation & Theses Dissertation & Theses A Database for Dissertations and Theses of HSC staff and students is available on-line. More than 150 titles are available at present. Print copies are located in HSC Library as special collection. Digital Collection Digital Collection HSCL's homepage is rich with its digital collection which is comprised of e-Books, Audios, CD’s, Video’s and the Arabic Collection.

12 Remote Access/Off Campus Access Remote Access/Off Campus Access Staff and Students should open an account with HSC Computer Center to remotely access electronic resources.

14 HSCL Working Hours The Library hours are: Academic Semester Saturday-Wednesday – 8.00 a.m. – 9.00 p.m. Thursday - 8.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. Semester Break Saturday-Wednesday - 8.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m. Holy Month of Ramadan Saturday-Wednesday - 9.30 a.m. - 1.30 p.m. 8.00 p.m. – 12.00 midnight 8.00 p.m. – 12.00 midnight Thursday- 9.30 a.m. - 1.30 p.m.
