2 The libraries of Xavier University are housed in two fully-airconditioned buildings: the three-storey Main Library and the five-storey Library Annex. The two buildings are connected by a walkway. Collectively, the buildings have a seating capacity of 1,062. Main LibraryLibrary Annex walkway

3 The Annex Building houses four libraries. HUMANITIES LIBRARY2F HUMANITIES LIBRARY, 2F. SOCIAL SCIENCES LIBRARY 3F SOCIAL SCIENCES LIBRARY, 3F. SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY LIBRARY, 4F SERIALS LIBRARY, 5F

4 The Audio Visual Section is also located at the Annex building, 1F. The AV provides an assortment of multimedia resources. Reservation for the use of 5 viewing rooms are made here. There are four libraries located at the Main Building. GRADUATE LIBRARY, 2F, houses materials for the use of Graduate students.

5 The American Studies Resource Center or ASRC Library, 2F, houses a special collection of resources for use in courses with American content and to those interested in American culture, institutions and society. FILIPINIANA LIBRARY FILIPINIANA LIBRARY, 3F, houses local and national dailies, including books and journals on and about the Philippines and its people. Materials are for inside use only.

6 LAW LIBRARY LAW LIBRARY, 3F, houses materials for the use of Law students. The MEDICAL LIBRARY is located at the 4th floor of the Community Health Care Clinic and is for the exclusive use of medical students.

7 Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Circulation counters open from: 8:30-12:00 a.m. 12:30-6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday 8:30-12:00 a.m. 1:00-4:30 p.m. Saturday Any changes in the schedule will be posted in advance.

8 RESERVE BOOK SECTION, The RESERVE BOOK SECTION, provides supplementary reading materials recommended by faculty and heavily used but limited titles of books. INTERNET SERVICE INTERNET SERVICE is available at the 4th floor, Library Annex. Secure the Internet Access Card at the Computer Center. The libraries provide various SERVICES.

9 INTERLIBRARY LOAN INTERLIBRARY LOAN allows you to obtain copies of items found in other libraries. Any librarian can provide you with information about this service.SERVICES PHOTOCOPYING PHOTOCOPYING. Photocopy machines are available in all floors of the libraries. RESOURCE SHARING RESOURCE SHARING. The Library is a member of the Academic Libraries Information Network or ALINET. This membership allows XU students and faculty to do research in over 40 member-libraries in the region. For more details inquire at the Director’s Office, 2F, Library Annex. A list of the libraries where you can do research is posted at the bulletin boards, 1st floor, Library Annex.

10 COMPUTER-ASSISTED REFERENCE Electronic documents Electronic documents are available in the form of online databases and CD-ROMs.SERVICES ONLINE DATABASES The ONLINE DATABASES provide full-text, page images, abstracts and citations to articles from more than 4,000 journals and magazines dating as far back as 1975. These multidisciplinary databases are available anywhere you are on the campus. Just log on to the library website and click Online Databases. You can print or e-mail the articles. CD-ROMs CD-ROMs on various subjects are also available at the 2nd floor, Main Library. Printing is free; just provide the paper.

11 Computerized Issue System SERVICES The library operates a computerized issue system. If you are a first time borrower register first at the Checkpoint Area, 1F, Library Annex. To borrow, present the material and your current university ID or the barcoded library card at the counter. Library Website The library resources can be accessed anytime and anywhere through http://library.xu.edu.ph/index.htm The website provides links to various libraries, local, national and foreign newspapers, electronic journals and texts, research guides by subject, and many more free Internet resources.

12 OPAC Use the OPAC or Online Public Access Catalog to look for library materials. OPACs are available in all floors of the libraries. EVENTS An interesting and important feature of the OPAC is EVENTS ; it lists the major academic activities going on in the University. The OPAC keywordauthortitle subject You can search by keyword, author, title or subject.

13 CONTROL AREA CONTROL AREA. NO ID, NO ENTRY Upon entrance, library users are required to scan the current authorized IDs. The policy NO ID, NO ENTRY is strictly implemented.

14 LIBRARIANS CLERKS There are 11 experienced and well-trained LIBRARIANS and 8 CLERKS who are ready to serve and provide you with assistance in the use of library resources. LIBRARY STAFF There are also over 50 student assistants who can also help you with your library needs.

15 The Library is a place for all XU students to pursue their studies and research in a congenial atmosphere free from unnecessary disturbances. To this end, we ask that you be considerate of, and respect, the needs of other library users. Help us maintain a quiet “scholar’s workshop.”
