3 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING Two types of engaging content Learning Objects (single or aggregates) Digital Resources (single, collections/ sets/ themes) Chunks of digital material - graphics, text, audio, animation, interactive Tools. Range of approaches: Decision-making Experiential learning Games Investigation and inquiry Modelling Predict, observe, explain (POE) Problem-solving Research Simulation Moving image clips, documents, line drawings, paintings or maps, photographs or audio files of songs or broadcasts. Licensed from a range of cultural institutions, including the National Film and Sound Archive, National Library of Australia and CSIRO. Learning design embedded – specific learning outcomes; scoffolded; feedback; promote higher order thinking No embedded learning design – include descriptions, interpretations of their educational value  teachers decide how to use them.

5 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING Scootling Tips Run the Software Analyser – from Scootle and TLF homepageSoftware Analyser –Ensures your computer has correct software to run learning objects –Give instructions to parent so they can run the analyser on their home computer Pop up blocker – Turn off TLF catalogues – on Scootle home page - great for browsing for suitable content to support your program TLF Updates - monthlyTLF Updates - latest TLF news + other interesting stuff to do with LT

8 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING Assessment learning objects Developed as a result of requests from teachers Learning objects – designed to teach concepts and skills Assessment learning objects – based on a set of learning objects but ASSESS what students have learned as a result of using the learning objects. - provide teachers with assessment data All have ‘assessment’ as part of title Scootle Advanced search > select ‘Title only’ and enter “assessment”. More and more assessment LOs being developed in literacy, numeracy and Science.
