2 Access the catalog from any computer connected to internet: PV homepage: What’s New: The same link can be found on each school’s homepage.

3 Click on the school name for the online library catalog.

4 Library Homepage appears first. Click on the “Login” button. Login using student ID number and last name.

5 Library Homepage appears first. Click on the “Catalog” tab to browse the catalog.

6 The following examples show the junior high catalog, but searches are performed the same way in all catalogs.

7 Destiny Quest Click on the Catalog Tab Click on Destiny Quest on the left of the screen Home Access to Destiny Quest : To fully view Destiny Quest, there are minimum requirements for the browser and screen resolution. 9 Hover mouse button over cover to get more information. See what others are reading! TOP TEN BOOKS List Back to Destiny “Classic” Catalog Student Login to view personal information Teacher-generated resource list for assignment use.

10 Double Click on book for even more information: To get back to Destiny Quest main screen, click on X. Lists other books patron may like, just like online bookstores!

11 Subject Search Drag & Drop books to create resource list for easy bibliography. Click on links for additional resources. Double click on any book cover for more information.

12 Subject Search Click on the magnifying glass to search databases provided by the AEA and others selected by library staff.

13 Virtual Shelf Browse Click on Shelf Browse button to find other books in same subject area. Great for finding fiction books by the same author. Move the slider to see other books on the shelf.

15 Basic search: Type in search criteria and click on the appropriate tab: Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, Series, One Search

16 Search Catalogs at all Schools Search own school Search by level or Search through all catalogs with one click Look in: Pleasant Valley SD When looking at all schools, patrons will see the holdings for all buildings.

17 Catalog Search 2 books available locally in the school, both are checked out 7 copies available off-site in other libraries, 6 of which are checked out 2 books available locally in the school, 1 is checked out 7 copies available off-site in other libraries, 4 of which are checked out 2 books available locally in the school, both checked out 16 copies available off-site in other libraries, 7 of which are checked out This example searched through all district school catalogs.

19 Title Details Publication information - publisher, copyright, number of pages, size, standard book numbers Additional Info could show interest level, reading level, series name, inclusion of maps and other graphs, charts, etc

21 Search for Literary Prize Winners or State Reading Programs Click on the arrow next to “Search Award Winner” State Reading Programs: Literary Prizes:

22 Search by Lexile Score Lexile shows reading ability and text difficulty. Students receive their lexile range from MAP testing. Enter a range of numbers to find a list of books within that measure.

23 Lexile List In this example, there are 1349 books in the library within the Lexile range

24 Visual Search Visual Search is set up in each building either by the Teacher-Librarian or by teacher request to easily access books for a particular area of instruction, assignment, or even a group of similar books. The Visual Search varies from building to building.

25 Copy Categories Copy categories are lists of books set up by Teacher- Librarians to make a search for a particular book easier, or simply bibliographies of good books to read. Like the Visual Search, categories vary from building to building.

26 One Search Junior High and High School only Enter Search criteria Click on One Search to search the databases provided by AEA and databases selected by the building’s Teacher-Librarian

27 One Search – automatically searches all databases at at the same timewww.iowaaeaonline.org Databases include: World Book Online SIRS (Social Issue Resource Series) Researcher EBSCO AP Image Archive Accu-Weather Atomic Learning Clipart Discovery Education

28 Student Login Username = student ID number Password = last name Student must be logged in to their individual school to look at their personal information or place a hold on a book. One does not need to login to browse the catalog.

29 Student Library Information Available through Catalog “My Info” Tab Lists Items Checked Out Overdue Items Fines for Late Materials Items on Hold. Student needs to click on Logout button when done.

30 Resource Lists Create citation lists (bibliographies) Find desired materials Click on “Add to this List” Creates personal list for the student

31 Resource Lists Click on “Resource List” on the left to see the list of selected materials Click at the bottom to create a “Citation List” or “Bibliography”

32 Citation List Citation list is in MLA format. Student no longer needs to type citation list or to find internet site to create a list.

33 Destiny Online Catalog Pleasant Valley Community School District Catalog or Destiny Quest – either catalog gives students great access to school library catalogs anywhere there is an internet connection. Search, Browse, Place on a book on Hold, Check your information – easy to do at school, at home, or while on vacation.
