1950s Teenage Life Style
The styles of the 1950s included: cashmere sweaters, the poodle skirt, rolled up t-shirt sleeve, pedal pushers, black leather jacket, scarf, and gym wear. Guys also gave their girl their athletic sweater to borrow and keep warm. There were two main ways a person could dress. Greasers who were very untidy and messy. Preppies who dressed vey nice and tidy. Hair styles Girls wore pony tails or left their hair down and/or wore a bow in it. Guys trained their hair into greased back ducktails. Also they were never seen without a comb.
Style Girls and boys wore rolled up jeans and girls wore portable collars. Shoes Flats, converses, tennis shoes, and saddle shoes were worn. Bobby socks were also worn. Accessories Girls had books handy for their strong guys to carry for them. 1950s fashion was very conservative.
So many new things came out and were very popular in the 50s. There is a crazy list of fads. They include: Colored streamers for bicycle handlebars, TV Dinners, Drive-in theaters, Panty Raids, Letter Sweaters, Jukeboxes, Fins and chrome on cars, Abstract expressionism, Diners, Teenyboppers, Blue suede loafers, Bunny hop, Sock Hops, Flat tops, The Boomerang, Carhop, Elvis, Silly Putty, Bazooka Joe, Spud Guns,..
Sideburns, Whiffle ball, Bubble Gum Cigars, Hokey Pokey, SaddleShoes, Beehive hair, Fast food, Chicken Dance, Watching for flying saucers, Scrabble, Frisbees, Mr. Potato Head, Hula Hoop, Blue jeans, Pez, Paint-by-number, 3D Movies, Poodle Skirts, Neon signs, Cinch belts, Telephone Booth Stuffing, TV tray, Crew Cuts, Legos, Ant Farms, Slinky, and many others. These fads have set the foundation for our technology and how we live our lives today.
The 1950s music was the music that change the world of music as we know it. The new music of the 50s was thrilling and exhilarating. It gave teenagers a chance to break away from their parents boring oldies music and listen to something that has never been heard before. Most parents didnt like their kids listening to it because they thought it was rebellious. Rock n Roll was something completely different and Elvis Presley was one of the stars that helped make it popular with his music. Popular songs: Rock around the clock, rock and roll is here to stay, hand jive, great balls of fire, hound dog, and many more.
Movies became especially popular in the 50s. Drive-in-Movies became very popular with teenagers. That is where they spent their weekends. Popular movies were: Not of This Earth, The Blob, A Bucket of Blood, The Wasp Woman, and many others.
Teenagers did many things in their leisure time. They could watch television or go see a movie. Favorite TV show was American Bandstand. Go play outside with friends Ride bikes, play catch, play baseball, basketball, football, street hockey, swim, or play a sport on their school team. Watch football, basketball,and baseball games and cheer.
