2 Our School Our school is housed in a beautiful Victorian building, We have a large private site, It is a picturesque and peaceful setting in which to study, Loxdale is well established and has been accepting students on this site since 1979, Loxdale is an independent educational charity.

3 Our Location Loxdale is located in Portslade, a residential suburb of Brighton & Hove, We have great transport links via both bus and train, Close to London; just an hour on the train, On the edge of the beautiful South Downs National Park, Brighton is a very popular location and is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the UK for students.

4 Our Host Families We have been in Portslade since 1979 so there is a tradition of hosting students in the area, We know our host families very well, including the names of dog and cats! All our hosts live within a 25 minute WALK from school, Each host family is visited before they are accepted as a host family and are re-visited regularly, Our Accommodation Officers match our students to the right family – less than 1% ask to change hosts at Loxdale! Our students are welcomed and treated as part of the family during their stay.

5 Our Residential Centre Truleigh Hill is a typically English, purpose built residential centre. It is set in the South Downs National Park, just inland from the coast. The site has been recently refurbished and provides modern accommodation for our summer young learners. Features of our residential accommodation include: 24 hour staff supervision of students Shared room with between 2 and 6 other students of different nationalities Students taken to and from school in a mini bus every day On-site dining On-site shop offering drinks & snacks Free Wi-fi in communal areas Safe location for students away from busy roads Large outside area for sports & activities The chance to try archery, orienteering and treasure hunts Truleigh Hill is one of two residential centres available for use out of the summer season for closed groups of young learners. 6 Our School Facilities 15 Classrooms, Computer room, Library, On site dining for hot food, snacks and drinks, The Pavilion is our student common room where students can meet during their free time to relax, socialise, play sports, watch films and study, Large gardens ideal for sports and relaxation, On site sports hall and table tennis room, Two pianos for students to use.

7 International Summer Courses (groups or individuals) Homestay: Courses for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 weeks. Any period between Sunday 12 June to Sunday 14 August 2016 13 to 17 year olds 12 year olds if they are allowed to walk to and from school by themselves. 8 to 12 year olds if sharing with their parents who will take them to and from school each day. Residential: Courses for 2, 3 or 4 weeks. Any period between Sunday 26 June to Sunday 31 July 2016 13 to 17 year olds 8 to 12 year olds 24 hours care and supervision by our staff Our Young Learners Course Dates 2016 & 2017 We also welcome closed groups any time out of the summer International Winter Courses (groups or individuals)  13 to 17 year olds in homestay accommodation,  Any period between 8 January and 19 February 2017,  Courses for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 weeks,  12 year olds can join if they are allowed to walk to and from school by themselves,  10 to 11 year olds can join if they have a taxi/minibus pick up and delivery each day.* * (additional cost applies)

8 Our Summer Young Learner Course Our programme includes: 20 lessons tuition per week, Maximum 16 in a class, End of course certificate and course materials, Host family or residential accommodation and meals, 5 afternoon and evening activities every week, Students taken home after evening activities if they live more than a 10 minute walk from school, All students are fully supervised by our staff, Weekend trips on both Saturday and Sunday, In addition to general English lessons the students also enjoy lessons dedicated to learning about British Culture and their trip destinations every week. We welcome international pre-teen (8 to 12 years) and teenage learners (13 to 17 years) to Loxdale every Summer.

11 Fun and Interesting Facts About Summer 2015 at Loxdale 301 students came from 22 different countries for an average of 2.9 weeks 17% of the independent students and 75% of the group leaders were returning for a 2 nd, 3 rd, or 4 th time! 34% of the students came as independent students and the others came in groups. Please note we have a meeting with our independent students every day during the summers. On the pre-teen course students ranged from 8 to 12 years and the average age was 11.2 years. Our Students came from: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, German, Georgian, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Luxemburg, Korea, Kuwait, Netherlands, Norwegian, Poland, Portugal, Russian, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. On the teenage course students ranged from 13 to 17 years and the average age was 15 years old. 99.67% happy customers with their host families, only 1 asked to change hosts Most popular name for girls were derivatives of Ekaterina/Ekaterine/ Caterina/Catherine and Sofia scored highly but the clear run-away winner for most popular girl’s name is still Maria!! Most popular names for boys was a draw: derivatives of Carl/Carlo/Carlos and derivatives of Nicolas/Niklas/ Nikola/Nikolai

12 Our Winter Young Learner Course Our programme includes: 20 lessons tuition per week, Maximum 16 in a class, Course materials and end of course certificate, Host family accommodation and meals, Supervised activities 5 afternoons and 3 evenings each week, Supervised 6 weekend trips over 4 weeks. We welcome young learners aged 13 to 17 years old to Loxdale every January and February. 12 year olds can join if they are allowed to walk to and from school by themselves. In addition to general English lessons students can choose to join* the English High School Immersion programme for 2 afternoons per week. * Fees apply

14 Our Focus on Student Welfare Welfare is a key priority for us: Anna (Principal) greets students upon arrival and meets students personally every day, Our teachers and staff really know our students so can quickly identify if there is a problem or something wrong, The majority of our staff are First Aid trained and are trained in child safeguarding. We have 2 Child Protection Officers, We have three 24 hour emergency phone numbers for our students, Loxdale is a member of the Young Learners and Teenagers Special Interest Group to ensure we have best practise and provide great quality, We look after your children as we would want our own children to be cared for if they were studying abroad. We take the welfare of our adult and young learner students very seriously at Loxdale. We pride ourselves at taking excellent care of our students.
