International Student Induction 2014 - 2015 Points Based System

International Office The International Office is based on the second floor of the main building, Riverside Campus International Office staff who will be able to help you with any visa enquiries are as follows: Sheryl Nicolson, International Officer Margaret Ann Rice, International Administrator Calum Maclean, Head of International Partnerships

The Role of the International Office The Office is open each weekday between 8.30am - 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 4.30pm The International Office can advise you on: -General immigration enquiries -Visa extension applications -Dependant applications -Work entitlement according to your visa

Tier 4 of the Points Based System (PBS) Tier 4 of the PBS was introduced as of 31 st March 2009 Numerous policy changes have ensued since this date and are still ongoing Please always ensure that you consult the International Office or contact UKV&I directly for any advice regarding your visa – do NOT rely on the word of mouth of friends

Sponsorship Duties The College holds “Highly Trusted Sponsor” status from UK Visas and Immigration The College as a Highly Trusted Sponsor must: -Closely monitor the attendance of all tier 4 students and report to UKV&I if a student’s attendance is unsatisfactory -Maintain a record of tier 4 student contact details which includes their UK address and mobile telephone number -Keep a copy of each tier 4 student’s passport, visa and qualifications on file

Contact Details/ Passport In line with UKV&I requirements, if you have not already done so, please report to the International Office ASAP and bring with you your passport and original qualifications in order that copies can be kept on file and a record of your contact details can be taken

Attendance In line with UKV&I and College policy, all tier 4 students must endeavour to incur NO UNAUTHORISED ABSENCES We understand that you may occasionally require to take some time off, for example, if you are ill. However, if you do require to be off for any reason whatsoever, you must contact your Course Leader in advance to advise them that you will not be attending. If you do not advise the College in advance that you will be absent, you will incur an “unauthorised absence.” An unacceptable amount of unauthorised absences on your record could mean that the College are forced to report you to UKV&I which would mean that you would be withdrawn from the course and have to return home

Working during your studies As a student on an HND course, you are entitled to work up to 10 hours per week during College term time and you can work full-time during official College holidays You should check your visa to ensure that it mentions the correct requirements

Visa Extension In the event that you require a visa extension at the end of your course, you must ensure that you consult your Course Leader about this at least 30 days in advance In most cases, students who require to re-sit will be offered a Student Visitor Visa letter and require to go home and then return to the UK to complete their studies at a later date
