Athens PRO: a direct vote in politics, social class didn’t matter Athens CON: only 12% of the population had a direct vote Rome PRO: Representative democracy, three branches, more quick reaction Rome CON: women couldn’t vote, consuls had a lot of power, wealthy had more voting power

3. The Decline of Western Civilization Center of Western Civilization = Roman Empire – Falls in 476 AD Dark Ages: period after the fall of Rome – Europe “forgets” the legacy of Greece and Rome
