6 REAL-TIME METERING Meter –Designed by Green Campus staff with off-the-shelf technology –PowerLogic ® Energy Meter –PowerLogic ® EGX400 Ethernet Gateway with a modified display screen to compare the halls energy use –Flat screen Dell ® LCD monitor in the lobby of each hall –Installed by Facilities staff who donated their time

9 BARRIERS Budget –Meter: Facilities and Housing –Competition: Prime Time Productions Maintenance on Meter and Display –Bret Bosma –Clear Communication Resident Participation –Collaborated with fellow programs to have more man power

10 ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2007-2008 Energy Savings from the Competitions –April Competition: estimated monthly savings 12,020 kWh –October Competition: estimated monthly savings 13,018 kWh –Combined CFL exchanges: Estimated annual savings: 32,599 kWh Estimated annual GHG emissions avoided: 10,296 lbs Results and Participation –420 residents in both halls participate every year –Computer monitors now turned off when not in use –Utilize more natural light and leave lobby lights off –More general awareness of GCP and other environmental groups

11 LESSONS LEARNED Collaboration is key to success –Facilities, Housing, other student programs Strong team unity and communication Necessary to have buy in from stakeholders –Working with University Property Need technical help –Installations and continuous maintenance work
