Types of Rhymes continued Half Rhyme –words that sound similar, but not identical like ham and pan Exact Rhyme –words that sound identical such as cat, hat, sat; Rhyme that piles up –words that sound alike at the end of a line, four or more lines; it makes the reader read faster and sound like the word rhymes are ‘piling up’

5. Rhyme Schemes Rhyme schemes are the patterns of rhyming words in poems. Lines that rhyme at the end are given the same letter to show a repeated pattern

6. Rhythm The rhythm of a line of poetry is the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in the line. When this pattern is repeated throughout a poem, the poem is said to have a regular beat.

7. Repetition A use of any element of language-a sound, a word, a phrase a grammatical structure-more than once. Writers use repetition to stress ideas and create memorable sound effects.
