3 Types of Rhyme End Rhyme –The rhyming words occur at the end of the lines. The kid in the hat Has a gray bat Internal Rhyme (rhyme in a line) –Rhyme that occurs within a line Eating rice is nice

4 Types of Rhymes continued Half Rhyme –words that sound similar, but not identical like ham and pan Exact Rhyme –words that sound identical such as cat, hat, sat; Rhyme that piles up –words that sound alike at the end of a line, four or more lines; it makes the reader read faster and sound like the word rhymes are ‘piling up’

5 Rhyme Schemes Rhyme schemes are the patterns of rhyming words in poems. Lines that rhyme at the end are given the same letter to show a repeated pattern

6 Rhythm The rhythm of a line of poetry is the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in the line. When this pattern is repeated throughout a poem, the poem is said to have a regular beat.

7 Repetition A use of any element of language-a sound, a word, a phrase a grammatical structure-more than once. Writers use repetition to stress ideas and create memorable sound effects.
