RAP: 1.____type of mechanical weathering when water freezes and melts in the cracks of rocks 2._____ type of chemical weathering where metals react with oxygen to form rust 3._________ is the natural moving of materials from one place to another. (erosion or deposition)

Erosion and Deposition 9/4 1. What is erosion? 2. What are the 5 agents of erosion? 3. What is deposition?

Erosion and Depostion 1.Erosion is the natural moving of materials from one place to another. 2.The agents of erosion are running water, gravity, wind, glaciers, and waves. Running Water-river (Grand Canyon) Gravity –landslide pulls mud, rock, and soil down a mountain.

Wind moves sand from one place to another creating sand dunes. Glaciers (moving ice) scrape rocks off land and move the rocks downhill creating u shaped valleys. Waves wash sand from one place to another (one beach shrinks and one is created). 3. Deposition is the dropping off of sediments and building up of land.

1. _____type of rocks that form in oceans, rivers, and lakes (sediemntary rock) 2. _____type of igeous rock that cools on Earth’s surface (igneous) 3. _____ name one mineral that can scratch topaz (minerals) 4,____ process that can break down entire mountain ranges (mechanical weathering) 5. ____ texture of metamorphic rocks where the minerals are aligned like the pages of a book (metamorphic) Review questions
