About Me I was born and raised in Amherst, New York Which MEANS…

About Me I lived in Arizona for thirteen years, and graduated from Arizona State University

About Me

American History I Essential Question: What is the American Dream?

Why Do we have to study American History? Topic #1: The American Dream: Thinking big... Take 3 minutes to quietly brainstorm ideas on your sheetopic #1: The American Dream

Does everyone in America have an equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream? (Think/Pair/Share)

What does it mean to be an American, anyway? To get us thinking about the big picture, we are going to begin by watching a short video called “Mainstream, U.S.A.” As we watch the documentary that profiles the demographics of the United States, be thinking about a)things that surprise you/things that do not surprise you b)any questions that arise as we are watching c)your predictions for our future Fill in questions to the best of your ability as we go along...we will discuss! :)

Mainstream, U.S.A. This was made for the Election of 2012...but certainly works for 2016 as well! Who lives in this country? What do our demographics illustrate about the American Dream? How are our demographics connected to our nation’s past? How might they be connected to our future? The “new mainstream” is referring to the shift in demographics in the United States.

So...what do you think? For homework, find an image that you feel illustrates the answer to the question, “What is the American Dream?” The image can be taken from a magazine, newspaper, website or can be hand-drawn.homework Then, briefly explain why you feel your chosen image illustrates the American Dream. (Due tomorrow along with your syllabus slip.)
