3 The earliest humans probably lived in Africa. They spread to the rest of the world over the next tens of thousands of years as they hunted and gathered food.

4 Getting Food

5 Without becoming food!

6 Families united in groups called bands to collect roots, nuts, fruits and seeds. They also hunted together. By co- operating they met their basic needs for food, clothing and shelter. These people are known as Hunters and Gatherers.

7 The animals hunted provided hunters and gatherers with what resources necessary for survival?

8 They set up seasonal camps in caves or rock shelters whenever the animals were plentiful.

14 People in different parts of the world gradually developed their own cultures (way of life). As bands grew larger, their organization and interactions within the group changed. Band members performed different tasks (division of labor) and took on different roles according to their abilities and the group’s needs. 4. ___________were beginning to develop?

16 Artifacts are objects made by humans, typically an item of cultural or historical interest. Archeologists examine artifacts they find to determine what life was like in the past. 5. Cave paintings, bowls, and clothing are Artifacts too. Name at least 3 others?
