2 The 11 th Amendment Citizen of one state can't sue another state in federal court. Immunity of states from suits from out-of-state citizens and foreigners not living within the state borders. Lays the foundation for sovereign immunity.

3 The 12 th Amendment Separate balance for vice-president and president, can't be from the same state. Electors for president and vice-president must clearly identify the person they choose for each office (Electoral College).

4 The 13 th Amendment Abolishes slavery in the United States.

5 The 14 th Amendment Defines citizenship; contains the due process clause and the equal protection under the law clause.

6 The 15 th Amendment Prohibits the denial of suffrage based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

8 The 17 th Amendment Establishes the direct election of United States Senators by popular vote.
