1 Warmup 1/5 Read and annotate “How To Start a Political Party” by Daniel Engher. Answer the questions on the TUE part of your professionalism rubric You will have 10 minutes!!!! Turn in voter registration forms!

2 Political Party Simulation Project 1. Create a Political Party ___TUE 1/5/16_______ a) Choose a name for your political party b) Choose a symbol/mascot for your political party c) Elect a person that will serve as the candidate for your party

Create a Party Platform _____Tue-Wed 1/5-1/6___ a) Your platform should be based on at least 8 issues (technology use, lunch procedures, homework, grading, dress code, gun control, gay rights, death penalty, drug policy, immigration policy, minimum wage/jobs, military spending/defense) b) You should explain your stance on these issues (what you see as the problem and your solution to the issues. 4 Create a Campaign ______THU 1/7-WED1/20 You should create a slogan or motto for your political party and/or candidate. Create campaign materials such as posters, buttons, stickers, etc. to promote your candidate. Create a campaign commercial to be uploaded to YouTube. Commercials will be aired on THU 1/14 Create a campaign finance plan. You will need to stay within your budget and decide how you want to spend the money you are designated and explain your reasoning. You will find extra ways to raise money to finance your campaign. You will need to get middle school students and staff members registered to vote. Voter registration forms will be included for you. You can ONLY get votes from people that are REGISTERED to vote. ***REMINDER: Propaganda is a HUGE part of getting votes for your candidate*** Political Party Simulation Project

5 4. Campaign Speech ____TUE 1/19 Your candidate shall give a 2 minute prepared speech on why they should be elected. The speech should include points from your platform as well as your campaign. Political Party Simulation Project

6 5. Election Day ____THU 1/21___________ Encourage your classmates, teachers, and fellow scholars to come by Room 204 to vote for your candidate! Poll hours are from 8:40- 4:00pm. Remember, 1 st place gets an extra 50 points on tests/projects grade!!!! Political Party Simulation Project

7 5. Reflection Each person will complete a reflection that will be given out on January 21, 2016. This individual reflection will be due by the end of 7 th period on January 22, 2016. Political Party Simulation Project

8 6. Portfolio: _FRI 1/22 BY 4:00PM Make sure that your group collects each of the artifacts in the table below for your grade. READ AND MAKE SURE YOUR GROUP HAS EACH COMPONENT!!! Reflections from each member will be turned in with the portfolio. Political Party Simulation Project
