PaydayPayday Working Together The Key to Success in Fourth Grade

Expectations Behavior expectations are established the first day of school.

General Rules Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working. When the teacher is talking, be quiet and listen. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before talking. Respect your classmates. Treat them with kindness in your words and actions. Don't hit, kick, or touch anyone with your hands, feet, or any other object. Always walk in the classroom and halls.

Every Friday, your child will bring a progress report in their Payday Folder. This is a checklist for you to see their behavior for the week. This explains their pay for the week. This needs to be signed and returned with the payday folder.

Payday Folder The payday folder is a running bank account of the behavior money your child earned for the week. 0 checkmarks = $4 a day 1 checkmark per day = $3 a day ( 5 minutes from recess) 2 checkmarks in one day = $0 a day (all recess)

TAX column The tax column in the payday folders reflects real life. Students must pay 10% for taxes for their earnings. We round this number because we don’t deal with change.

Be sure to sign the payday folder and the progress report and have your child bring them back on Monday for an extra $5.

Business Day Business Day will be scheduled 6 times during the year at the end of each six week grading period. Each Business Day will have a theme that correlates with a unit we have studied in Science or Social Studies during the previous six weeks. Only students who have earned enough behavior money (Scholar Dollars) for the six weeks will be allowed to participate in Business Day.

Business Day Groups The students will run their businesses with a partner or group. The students are responsible for choosing their partners or groups and working with them to create a product or service that goes with the theme.

Products/Services Students may spend $10 in real money per group on supplies for their product or service. Products must be created by group members. Anyone that does not create a product can be hired by a business to work for pay.

Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend Business Day. However, parents should not be helping students run the businesses or giving students any extra Scholar Dollars for the businesses.

Homework Policy 1.All unfinished classwork is homework. 2.If students fail an assignment (except for tests) they may correct it for a 70%. 3.Homework that is not completed on time will be finished at recess. 4.Check weekly progress report to see if your child has turned in homework.

Tutoring Tutoring time is from 8:00-8:30 daily. Students will be pulled at the teacher’s discretion. Students are busy during this time even if they aren’t being tutored directly. After the writing TAKS is completed, we will have before school or after school tutoring. You will be notified if your child needs to attend.

Regular Daily Schedule Monday: Plan Sheet (half of the plan sheet is completed together as a class). Tuesday: Half of the rough draft (introduction (w/t), all of body paragraph one (w/t), half of body paragraph two Wednesday: All of rough completed with parents editing on Weds. night. The conclusion will be done together in class. Thursday: Peer/teacher edit and begin working on final copy. Friday: Fun Friday, extra recess and pop corn drawing, for those who finished their daily writing assignment.

What if my child doesn’t finish his/her work? You will be notified. The student will either have a working lunch and/or recess or finish their assignment during down time in class. (tutorial time, when done with classwork) The child will lose Fun Friday, pay, and recess.

Why is the schedule so important? Your child will fall behind and will not be able to go on with the class to the next section. This will help them with time management. The TAKS test must be completed in one day. (38 punctuation questions and a 2 page composition)

Results In the past two years, 99% of our students have passed the TAKS test. 91 out of 132 students earned Academic Recognition in 06-07. Students were confident in their writing abilities.
