Webquest 8.3b The motion of the Earth and moon relative to the sun causes daily, monthly and yearly cycles on Earth. 3 Genetics with a Smile Students will use auto shapes on Microsoft Word in order to create the genetic features of a Smiley Face character based on probability. Students will use auto shapes on Microsoft Word in order to create the genetic features of a Smiley Face character based on probability. Students will be given a sheet where they will flip coins to find the genetic traits that their organism will have, they will then take this information to their computers where they will be responsible to create their Smiley Face organisms using the auto shapes on Microsoft Word. The students will then print these out and will compare the traits of their organisms with other organisms that the other members of the class created. This will show them how varied traits can be on a given population. They will all get similar shapes so it will be easier for them to spot similarities than it would have been if they had hand drawn them. They can also be creative in where they place and organize their work. This activity is good for Microsoft word because it is a very basic program that students will be able to use with ease. I will also have to make sure to check the finished product for accuracy before they compare their own work to that of others. 4 Bridge Webquest Students will complete a webquest on bridges and based on the knowledge they they gain they will propose a bridge type that is best suited for a planned area. Students will complete a webquest on bridges and based on the knowledge they they gain they will propose a bridge type that is best suited for a planned area. Technology will be used in many ways for this assignment. All the directions will be on the webquest telling the students what they will be responsible for and what are good websites to obtain their information. They will then be required to develop a presentation using technology to persuade a group of people why the type of bridge they have chosen will be the best choice. In these different ways students will be getting the use of technology in many ways for this one assignment. Technology will be used in many ways for this assignment. The teacher will assess progress by meeting with each group before the presentation and use guided questioning to make sure students obtained the information that they need before they create their presentation. At the end of the lesson students will be assessed based on their presentation of whether they decided on the correct type of bridge and the reasoning will have to show their mastery of the content. 5 NonLinear Powerpoint I will use a Nonlinear PowerPoint to show students how the positions of the Earth, moon and sun effect our seasons, phases of the moon, and tides on earth. I will use a Nonlinear PowerPoint to show students how the positions of the Earth, moon and sun effect our seasons, phases of the moon, and tides on earth. I will create a PowerPoint that shows the images of Earth, moon and sun. Students will then click on the Earth for each place for the seasons and the name of the season will be there. The process will be the same for the phases of the moon but students would click on each moon position and the name of the phase and what it looks like in the sky would appear. The same idea would be used for showing the tides. Students would then have access to the PowerPoint because I could post it in my folder using the school network. They could then use it to study before the final assessment. I will create a PowerPoint that shows the images of Earth, moon and sun. Students will also enjoy it more because it would be interactive. This technology was chosen because drawings by the teacher are not nearly as effective as the image that can be found online. They will also complete exit slips when leaving class, so I as the teacher will be able to monitor and adjust to what students were able to learn from the lesson. 6 Camera/Webpage Students will take digital pictures of different motions to learn about Newton’s Laws of Motion. Students will take digital pictures of different motions to learn about Newton’s Laws of Motion. Students will use the school’s digital cameras to go around the school and take pictures of what the think is motion. They will then post these images to a web page that was previously created. Other students will then told to go on the site and make comments on how they see motion in the picture. Students will then be told to review the section on Newton’s Laws of motion and then go to the website to write how the laws are shown in the different pictures. This technology because it gives the students the ability to create their own knowledge. Most are familiar with the technology and will be able to now use this in an academic setting. They will also be creating their own web page and be able to collaborate with each other. This technology because it gives the students the ability to create their own knowledge. The final assessment will be the correctness of the comments that are posted on the website. Students will have a checklist of the requirements and if they will be graded based on the content of each individuals work.
