Tag Questions What are they??????????

What are tag questions? A question “tagged” to the end of a sentence is called a tag question, isn’t it? Tag questions are also called “confirmation questions” because we ask them when we think we know the answer, and we just want someone to confirm whether the answer we know is correct. Ex: We are at the TPD session now, aren’t we?

The basic pattern of a tag question goes like this: It has two parts: 1. A statement and… 2. A yes or no question asking if the statement is true. The two parts are then separated by a comma. Ex: We are at the TPD session, aren’t we? (statement) (question)

Positive / Negative When the statement is positive, the tag becomes negative. When the statement is negative, the tag becomes positive. Ex: She can drive, can’t she? She can’t drive, can she? She is not coming, ____ she? a. is b. isn’t We are learning about tag questions, ____ we? a. aren’t b. are

Noun / Pronoun The noun in the statement becomes the pronoun in the tag. Ex: Emma wasn’t late today, was she? Hema is always smiling, isn’t ____ ? a. she b. her Our mentors are smart, aren’t ____ ? a. we b. they

Main Verb / Helping Verb The main (auxiliary) verb in the statement is repeated as a helping verb in the tag. Ex: They’d left the workshop early, hadn’t they? We had run out of time, ___ we? a. didn’t b. hadn’t You were always on time, ____ you? a. was b. weren’t

Extra Practice 1. They’ve already left __ ____ ____ ? 2. Our GB is cheerful today __ ____ ____ ? 3. We’d already finished our work __ ____ ____ ? 4. Mr. Khalid can ride a motorbike __ ____ ____ ? 5. There were many questions __ ____ ____ ? 6. These tag questions ____ simple, aren’t ____ ? 7. Think and Write. Write your own tag question for number 7. ___________________________________________ ?

Test Time You have 5 minutes to complete the following test. Good luck.

Speaking “Op” “Op” talk is a language used by some English speaking children to disguise their English. The language is built around the spelling of each word. For vowels simply say the name of the vowel. For consonants add “op” after each consonant sound.

Example Travis has 2 vowels and 4 consonants. In “op” talk it would be read Top rop a vop i sop. Can you read this sentence? I lopikope opop topalopkop. * Let’s go back and try the test again.

Test 1.Wophopatop isop yopourop nopamope? What is your name? 2.Isop topodopayop Fopropidopayop? Is today Friday? 3.Copanop yopou soppopeakop Enopgoplopisophop? Can you speak English?

Building Blocks

Reading The aim is to help the students read for comprehension. This is called fluency. Fluency requires that the students must be able to: decode (phonics), recognize sight words, and understand what they are reading.

Students learn sight words and phonics. Students practice these skills by reading texts. Students begin to understand what they read, and become fluent readers.

Phonics Hopscotch Time to practice segmenting again and have a little fun.
