Hi! I’m Timmy the Tea Bag and I survived the Boston Tea Party. Being apart of the American Revolution was so cool because it was a major event in history! Go to the next page to find out what happened to me and why.

Remember… I want you to know all about the Boston Tea Party. The Tea Party led to the American Revolution, which led to freedom of the colonies. Without this event you might still live under British rule!

I’m property of the British East India Company. They trade tea bags just like me! Prior to the Boston Tea Party, the British East India Company controlled all the tea trading from India to the British Colonies.

The British initiated a Tea Tax to help them gain money from their debt of the French and Indian War.

No one wants to buy me anymore! Because of the tax, the Colonists refused to buy British tea. So the Colonists smuggled tea from Holland.

Take the Tea! The British forced Colonists to buy tea so that the British East India Company would not go out of business and so the Colonists would stop smuggling tea from elsewhere.

Remove the Tax! NO! The Colonists were angry about having to buy taxed tea from the British. They demanded removal of the tax because it was “taxation without representation”.

The Colonists refused to unload tea from the ships the British sent to the harbor.

The governor of Massachusetts demanded the tea be unloaded and the tax be paid. People did not agree with this and began to plan The Boston Tea Party. This was the final straw for the Patriots. What are they going to do?

How do you think the Colonists felt dealing with the British? What do you think was the main cause for the Boston Tea Party? Explain. Write your answer in the box below.

Good Answer! The British initiated a tea tax to raise money for their debt from the French and Indian War. The Colonists felt unfairly treated and wanted representation in the British government. When their pleas were not met, they became angry and decided to rebel.

The Boston Tea Party Now that you’ve learned all about the causes of the Boston Tea Party, let’s learn about the actual event. Click the NEXT button to move on.

December 16, 1773 The Sons of Liberty gathered in the night and dressed up as Mohawk Indians as a disguise. The Sons of Liberty were a group of Patriots (people who opposed British rule) who led the revolts against the British to fight for Colonists’ freedom.

Disguise the Colonist What do you think he should look like? Recall how the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves. CTRL-P to draw ESC for arrow tool

Good Job! That looks great! The Sons of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians before doing the Boston Tea Party. Let’s continue learning about the event.

The Sons of Liberty climbed into the British ships and dumped 342 cheats of tea into the Boston Harbor. All my friends got thrown overboard! I was lucky that I fell out of the chest before being thrown into the harbor!

Punish them! The British king was not happy about this revolt and decided to punish the Colonists.

The King ordered that the Boston Harbor would be closed.

The closing of the Boston Harbor became a part of the “Intolerable Acts”. This included the Stamp Act, Justice Act, Massachusetts Government Act and the Quartering Act.

The Colonies did not like this mistreatment by the British and came together to unite with the First Continental Congress in 1774. The First Continental Congress helped the Colonies develop government.

The Boston Tea Party was the revolt that led to the start of the American Revolution with the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The Colonists won the battle of Lexington and Concord.
