4 Objectives -Demonstrate innovative approaches and mechanisms based on appropriate technological inputs that enhance sustainable local livelihoods for local and indigenous communities living around PAs across the country. - Support and build capacity of NGOs and CBOs implementing these initiatives for enhancing links between conservation and sustainable livelihoods. - Enhance impacts and sustainability of the initiatives through facilitation of learning and sharing of lessons.

5 Mainstreaming biodiversity concerns into local-level planning Capacity-building and awareness creation about the importance of conserving resources, ecosystem services is essential for ensuring biodiversity conservation. Communities are empowered to lobby and push for mainstreaming their concerns into local-level planning. Capacity building for the local administration, forest department, revenue department and other local NGOs and community-based organizations to facilitate convergence of various schemes Facilitate an integrated approach which includes biodiversity concerns used for village-level planning. Supporting Need Based Planning rather than Scheme-based planning Capacity Building of Village level institutions like Eco Development committees, CFR committees, Panchayat sub committees to integrate conservation concerns into village planning Use of Maps, GIS, data etc for village and district level Planning exercises especially with District Councils For example WWF has compiled comprehensive GIS (Geographic Information Systems) databases on elephant distribution, human-elephant conflict, forest cover loss, and other parameters covering 15 districts in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
