1 English in Internet Advertising By Simon Langford

2 Internet Advertising takes many forms, from advertising that is in your face, to advertising that is subtle discreet. Different forms of advertising have different target audiences, and hence different english is used to target these audiences for maximum effectiveness.

3 The english used in advertisements differs depending on the target audience. In general, all advertising is designed to be, short and to the point, and to get the readers attention. A great example of this is when you conduct a google search, the advertising displayed will match the criteria you search for. For example, I conducted a search for “Broadband Internet”, the results obtained were relevant to the topic, and the location the search was conducted from. The Advertising displays a title that is designed to attract the readers attention, then there is a small sentence/statement about that services the company offers.

4 Internet advertising is generally short and to the point. Pictures are often used to represent products, as are short statements and claims. Pictorial based with the name of the company in text. Image, slogan and name of the company.

5 Advertising on the Internet is not that different from conventional forms of advertising, such as billboards, newspapers etc. The ads still take the same form, however they are generally targeted to a specific audience for maximum effectiveness.
