4 Important Beliefs They believe that Jesus existed, but he was not God’s son They also believe that their Savior/Messiah has not come yet Monotheistic (one God) Diaspora- when the Jews were removed from Israel, their homeland. Moses- most important prophet in Judaism, the leader who freed the Jews from slavery in Egypt.

5 Holidays Hanukkah- A Jewish festival, lasting eight days in December, that honors the building of their temple. Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah - a special ceremony on a boy’s/girl’s 13th birthday that shows they’re becoming adults in the Jewish religion. Passover- celebrated to honor when the Jews were freed from slavery in Egypt by Moses. Rosh Hashanah- Jewish new year Yom Kippur- The holiest day of the Jewish year, on which Jews fast and say prayers

6 Worship Religious Leader = Rabbi Place of Worship = Synagogue Name for God = Yahweh (in Hebrew) Ceremonial Clothing = Yarmulke, men wear it on their heads to show respect to God. Symbols = Star of David Menorah
