4 CHAPTER 4 TEST REVIEW 31)Location: St. Lawrence Lowlands in the Quebec and Ontario Province. It is a series of canals and locks that was built by the United States and Canada in 1954. It allows ships to sail from the Atlantic Ocean to the Western Shores of Lake Superior.

5 CHAPTER 4 TEST REVIEW 32) The Canadian Shield is the largest geographical region in Canada. The region is a land of rocks, lakes swamps with very little soil. In the northern areas, it is mostly covered in tundra. The land is not suitable for farming and the climate is so cold that few people live in this region.

Canada has a parliamentary form while the United States has a constitutional and representative form of democracy. Canada has a prime minister that is selected from the House of Commons and he is the leader of the Executive and Legislative Branches. The United States has a president that is elected by the people of the United States. He is only the leader of the Executive Branch. Both countries follow a constitution by part of Canada’s Constitution is partly unwritten. Canada has many political parties while the United States had two major parties (Republican and Democrat). The lawmaking body in Canada is called Parliament but in the United States it is called Congress. They both have a Senate. Canada also has The House of Commons while the United States has The House of Representatives. In Canada, the national government can reject provincial law but in the United States, the national government cannot.
