2 02/06/2016Prof. George Samaras – University of Cyprus2 University of Cyprus Department of Computer Science  The Department of Computer Science will be the main representative of UCY in Co-LIVING.  It has extensive experience in carrying out research and related implementation in the areas of tele-monitoring and tele-assistance, focusing in the area of collaborative virtual care team environments by providing remote control support for both the patient (including patient’s online training) and care personnel by making use of mobile wireless technologies.  The Department has been actively participating in a number of EC funded projects including mPower and also HS24: innovative mobile health care service supporting cardio patients’ and health professionals’ mobility; DITIS: provision of home-based health care service for chronic cancer and cardio patients supported by a collaborative Virtual Health Care Team, The project was among the finalists in the ‘European Health Conference 2003’; LinkCare: linking Health Professionals in Emerging Care Environments.

4 02/06/2016Prof. George Samaras – University of Cyprus4 What do we expect from Co-Living?  UCY as an academic and research institution, is interested firstly in enabling both the staff and the students involved in the project to improve their knowledge on the specific issues studied in this project and continue the specific research even after the project ends. New research directions Enhance courses  UCY having a long term expertise in carrying out research and development in the area of collaborative environments in the eHealth and the eInclusion sectors is seen Co-LIVING as an excellent opportunity which will lead to new research directions especially through the development of socialization services and models.  Such services fit well and will be integrated with other related research outcome the UCY has already managed to bring in the market, like the DITIS (Virtual Collaborative Working Environment), through the creation of a spinoff company in 2005.  Co-LIVING will also help UCY to consolidate and extend its links with industry giving opportunities for further valorisation of results.
