13 Third Grade Steps to Success 2015-2016 Recognizing that the most effective learning environment is one in which students are on task and focused on academics, Liberty’s third grade teachers have established a plan based on four core values. Students are expected to exhibit behavior which supports these values: *Respect *Responsibility *Honesty *Safety Student behavior is monitored daily. Acceptable behavior is acknowledged and students are recognized through the use of our third grade “dollars”. Positive Reinforcement: Praise! Praise! Praise! Students will be given dollars for various positive actions as well as their behavior card points. Students will be able to trade these dollars, at the end of each month, for items such as passes to eat lunch with a friend, bring a stuffed animal to school, excused from one homework assignment, extra recess, etc. Behavior Modification Steps: When a student’s behavior is not consistent with our core values, the staff will work with the student to help him/her determine how his/her actions did not reflect our code of conduct. Our focus is to help students manage their behavior and learn how to make improvements. The following steps will also be used to help the student recognize how his/her actions do not reflect the values. The Behavior Card, located in your child’s agenda, will also reflect these steps. -Step 1- A verbal conference with the student explaining that the classroom expectations are not being followed. -Step 2- A cooling off/processing period will be served within the classroom, away from the group. -Step 3- Teacher will contact/communicate with parent and a portion of recess will be missed. -Step 4- Reflection time in another classroom *Severe offenses such as bullying, threats, fighting, etc. will result in an immediate referral to an administrator as part of the Cherokee County’s Zero Tolerance Policy.
