2. All projects must contain the following elements: 1.Title 2.Author 3.Publisher and publication date 4.Main Character(s) 5.Setting (includes time and place) 6.Theme 7.Author’s Purpose 8.Plot Summary (includes all elements of the plot) 9.Conflict 10.Resolution

3. Title and Author o The TITLE is the name of the book. o The AUTHOR is who wrote the book.

4. Publisher & Publication Date o The NAME OF THE PUBLISHER can be found on the copyright page (also called the VERSO page). This is usually found on the back of the title page. o The DATE THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED can also be found on the copyright page.

5. Main Character(s) and Setting o The MAIN CHARACTER(s) or the PROTAGONIST are the ones who are most important in the story. o The SETTING is the time and place of the story.

6. Theme o The THEME is the idea or concept that is central to the story. This is bigger than the story’s main idea. It’s a lifeskill that is universally believed. o Ex: Many hands make light work, honesty is the best policy, work first/play later, etc.

7. Author’s Purpose o Explain why the author wrote this book. o Ex: Was the author trying to be funny? Did the author want the reader to learn something? Maybe the author was trying to persuade the reader to believe something. You decide & show proof.

8. Plot Summary o A paragraph describing the order of events in the story. Use complete sentences and good grammar. o Be sure to include the exposition, rising action, climax, conflict, and resolution. Remember your plot line!!

9. Conflict or Problem o What is the problem within the story? o Again use proper grammar and complete sentences. Spelling counts too!!!

10. Resolution o What is the result of solving the problem in the story? How does the main character(s) solve their problem in the story’s ending? o Again with the complete sentences and proper grammar!

11. What will you be judged on? Good question!! o Is the writing neat and easy to understand? o Are the sentences complete? o Did you use your imagination? Did you make it interesting and creative? o Does your project reflect aspects of your book? o Did you follow directions, and is your project durable (no pieces falling off)?

12. What will you be judged on? Continued… o Did you write about the most important information? o Do you understand what the author is trying to say in the story? o Does your project make others want to read the book? Did you do the work yourself? o REMEMBER: White boards with pencil writing will not make the judges want to stay long!!!
