2. Plot (definition) Plot is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. The plot revolves around the conflict.

4. 1. Exposition The beginning of the story where the following are introduced: –The Main Characters Protagonist: main character or hero Antagonist: another character which causes conflict for the protagonist. – The Setting ( Where and When the story takes place.) –The main conflict ( main problem ).

5. 2. Rising Action This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). A building of interest or suspense occurs.

6. 3. Climax The climax is the point of maximum interest. It usually occurs toward the middle to end of a story. The conflict does not develop further after the climax.

7. 4. Falling Action The characters attempt to solve the conflict.

8. 5. Resolution The conflict is solved. The story comes to a reasonable ending.

10. Theme Theme- the central idea, or insight, about life or human behavior that a story reveals. If the character learns a valuable lesson, so will you. Theme is what we can learn from a story. Themes must be inferred. Themes are about the BIG world. Examples: Three Little Pigs ( Hard work pays off ) The Ugly Duckling ( Appearances aren’t everything)
