Why do Recruitment and Selection methods differ? Size
Type of organisation Organisational needs and requirements Recruitment cost The SIZE of an organisation will have an effect on the process of r&s in a company. Many Large companies such as John Lewis, M&S as well as organisations such as GE or NHS all post open vacancies online – on their company website. This means that the positions have the exposure to a national and global labour market. With Online recruitment the labour market has become extremely competitive. Having an effective recruitment and selection process is important to enable employers to hire ‘top talent’ within the workforce. TYPE of Organisation – the industry an organisation is in plays a role in the R&S process, orgs such as the NHS, where they are recruiting medical and non-medical staff are going to need different r&s methods to that of a retail business such as John Lewis. Recruiting for a doctor in a hospital and a sales assistant in a shop is going to require a more in-depth and intense recruitment process. There for the type of organisation needs to be taken into consideration. ORG NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS is important because every employer is looking for different skills, knowledge and experience from their employees. In a company such as John Lewis it is important that employees have awareness of customer service and they believe in the companies ethos. John Lewis doesn’t look at their employees as just workers however they look at them as ‘PARTNERS’ within the business. This ongoing relationship has enabled John Lewis to become a Leading Employer in the Retail Industry. WHAT ARE THE NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS SARAH??? COST – r&s can be very expensive, many larger organisations use online recruiting and have their own HR department who deal with the open vacancies, others may use recruitment agencies or magazine/ newspaper job adverts. Smaller companies may have a lack of resources available and decide to use a more cost effective way of recruiting. When looking at the overall recruitment and selection cost one must consider, what methods are you going to use. i.e assessment centres, telephone interviews, face-to-face interviews and so on.
