1 How would your life be different if you lived in India. (Think about the family in the house and even the patriarchal lifestyle they had.) Be elaborate.

2 Hinduism HINDUISM is based on religious beliefs. Ultimate reality (God) called Brahman, individual self, or atman. Had the duty to know ultimate reality and in death would become one with Brahman

3 Hinduism REINCARNATION is the idea that after death the persons soul is reborn in a different form. After many existences the soul may unite with Brahman. KARMA refers to the idea the people’s action determine the form of their rebirth. The divine law, or DHARMA, rules karma YOGA (union) practice to achieve oneness with God.

4 Hinduism Has hundreds of deities. 3 chief ones are Brahma the Creator Vishnu the Preserver Siva the Destroyer

5 Buddhism BUDDHISM appeared in 6 th century B.C. It’s founder was SIDDHARTHA GAUTAMA, known as the Buddha (“Enlightened One”) He lived a privileged, sheltered life among great wealth. He noticed the suffering of the world and gave up his riches.

6 Buddhism He was an ASCETIC and practiced self-denial. He did not find enlightenment by abusing his body but later found it by long periods of meditation. He then spent the rest of his life teaching what he learned.

7 Buddhism These teachings are the basis of Buddhism. Physical realm is illusion. Desire’s attachments to the physical cause suffering. Giving this up leads to wisdom, or bodhi. Achieving wisdom is a key step in achieving NIRVANA, or ultimate reality, in reunion with the Great World Soul.

8 Buddhism Essential teachings concern the Four Noble Truths. He accepted reincarnation but rejected the caste system. After he died in 480 B.C. his followers built monasteries to spread his word.
