In November 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the united states. In December 1860 Lincoln gave a speech saying that he would not end slavery but it could not spread. South Carolina senators are mad and vote to have south Carolina leave the union.10 other states soon followed. March 1861 Lincoln is sworn into office and officially becomes president of the ‘not so untied states’ he decides all military forts belong to the u's government no matter where they are north of south. 1. The lasting effects on the civil war are that almost 620,000 people lost there lives. Most slaves had no homes of had no jobs. A lot of hostility remained even after the war. So the end of the war end up being really bad but at lest it is over.
