2 -Arrival starts at 7:50am the day begins at 8:00 sharp. -Dismissal is 3:30 pm. Please do not take child before he/she says goodbye to me and I have made eye-contact with you.

3 -Attendance is important! -If absent, notes to Mrs. Santiago -School calendar online (vacations) -Tardies – attendance is entered at 8:05

4 -Every child starts on green -If placed on yellow or red & a note goes home. -Students may go back to green -Red, yellow, and green slips may be sent home by other teachers

5 Blue Folder: Office, Teacher & Parent Communication Red Folder: Daily Homework, Graded Daily Homework, Tests Book Buddy Bag: G.R. book, any homework related to G.R., interest book Please check & empty folders daily.

6 To reinforce skills/strategies, develop study skills, communication method for parents. Monday-Thursday: Math Guided Reading- book & response Fundations Weekend: Writing Or Social Studies/Science Project

7 -It is important that you are reading & having comprehension conversations with your child EVERY DAY! -Reading log is now optional. Students who complete it and meet the goal of 105 min./week will be given the Book-It incentive(Oct.-March).

8 -Teacher meets with small groups -Other students work in literacy centers -Talk about being focused, doing your best, cooperation, etc. with your child -Grades: Weekly rubric- G.R. OR Literacy Center

9 -Phonics/spelling program. Focus is to learn word patterns- not memorize. -Packet goes home at start of unit. Due by date on packet (2-3 weeks). -Recommend daily work -Double Dose for 80% or less on Tests -DO memorize Trick Words! Quiz on date specified for list.

10 - Everyday Math – spiral curriculum, conceptual knowledge - not just knowing the answer. - Family letters are a great source of Info. - HomeLink - homework page -Unit enrichment packet for a challenge on Web page -Grades- Journal, Math Msg., Unit Test, Open Response

11 - Workshop model : 10 min. mini-lesson, 30 min. writing, 10 min. share. -About ideas - not the handwriting or spelling - Key concepts across all units- using interesting details, robust vocab, sequence (B, M, E). -Unit Letter & Rubric (along with homework) gives insight into the unit & grading scale.

12 -Science & Social Studies alternate each quarter -Watch the newsletter for key ideas taught that week -Homework for thematic unit will alternate with Writing homework on Fridays.
