2 Democratic Reform Under Jackson Voting Rights- States eliminated property qualifications so most white male adults could vote. (Sorry Women and Minorities….) Choosing a President – Nominating conventions replaced party leader choice Campaign Methods – new voters meant new campaign tactics. Rallies, fund raisers, dinners, public meetings.

3 Spoils System Jackson believed President was the voice of the people. - Used the Spoils System: Supporters who helped in his election were appointed to government jobs. Circulate government jobs would not lead to corruption.

4 War on National Bank Jackson hated National Bank. Jackson removed federal deposits from it and put them in state banks to weaken it. 1836 Vetoed Bank Charter Renewal

5 Native Americans Jackson felt Native Americans were blocking westward expansion. He supported moving all Native Americans west of Mississippi. Jackson refused to help the Cherokee in Georgia, even though Worcester v. Georgia, 1832.

6 Federal Power 1832 South Carolina threatened secession because it opposed tariffs. Jackson threatened to bring in the federal government.
