HOMEWORK This can be an important link between home and school. All Infant children are expected to complete a certain amount of work at home. Every child will be given a Home school diary, phonics book, reading scheme book and reading record book. Children will bring home their Home school diary every Friday with updates about the week and the week ahead. Reading scheme book and reading record book home with them each day and return them to school the following morning, along with their phonics book, it must be brought to school every day. Reading books will be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please sign the reading record book to show that reading has been completed.
4
READING Emphasis on learning through range of strategies with strong emphasis on phonics. Learn to recognise series of High Frequency Words, many of which cannot be sounded out phonetically. Also look at context and other clues to assist in understanding text.
5
READING AT HOME Children bring home scheme books each week, from quite an early point in the term. Please share these with your child and encouraging them to read to you as they gain confidence. Repetition is the key! Will also bring home words to learn, these are the HF words mentioned earlier.

PHONICS A combination of stories, pictures and actions for each sound. Sounds rather than letter names. 3 per week. Sheets for each letter brought home to reinforce learning. Includes letter formation in cursive.

EYFS PROFILE Children work towards Early Learning Goals, expectations for most children to aim towards during Foundation stage By the end of Reception, some children will have achieved or exceeded goals, some will still be working towards them, in which case will continue through work in Year 1. Parents will receive information in Summer on child’s progress towards goals.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP Help your child learn to get dressed and undressed independently, especially shoes, tights, socks, buttons and zips. Help your child to toilet independently and to manage their own basic hygiene such as hand washing. Encourage drawing, threading, buttoning – any fine motor activity that will build up their finger strength. Share stories and encourage their imagination. Ask your child to make up stories and draw them out. We love stories in Reception and will spend lots of time creating our own! Encourage a love of number – count out things you see, spot numbers in the environment and talk about them.
