2 TONIGHT’S GOALS: -DISCUSS 2015/16 SCHEDULE -DISCUSS CURRICULUM OPTIONS -EXPLAIN THE 2015/16 SCHEDULING PROCEDURE ANSWER QUESTIONS

3 2015/16 BELL SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS Student day is 8:30-3:24 World language is full year for both grade levels (Pink on the graph) Band /Choir/Orchestra/PE/Art/Pre-Engineering/Intervention is all one period (blue on the graph) Students will have to make choices during the blue block. Not all students will get Art/PE/Pre-Engineering and conversely not all students will be required to take a music class. ZERO PERIOD CLASS OPTIONS WILL BE OFFERED Intervention is offered 2-3 days a week. Intervention is for students with an identified deficiency in LA/Math/Reading) CORE classes will be 55 minutes in length

5 Language Arts Placement If you are identified as Gifted in Reading or have a “Superior Cognitive designation” you automatically qualify for the Gifted Language Arts class. All other students are placed in 7 th Grade Language Arts. We will work to “cluster group” students of similar ability. Appeals are possible. The appeal form will be on the LBMS website tomorrow afternoon.

6 2015/2016 World Language Offerings 7 th Grade students will be able to take Spanish or French You will have the choice to take it “For High School credit “ or “No High School credit” Whatever language you take in 7 th grade we ask that you take in 8 th grade. Once you choose “credit” or “no credit” it cannot be adjusted after the class has started.

7 7 th Grade “0” Period Pre-Engineering Runs from 7:30 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. 5 days a week Quarter or semester long depending upon signup numbers Prerequisites: “B” or above average Possible topics covered (depending upon length of term) Junior Solar Sprint Reverse engineering Google Sketch up and 3D printing Stop-motion animation Sketching and drafting Problem solving and creativity methods Agriculture (high tunnel) Video Production

8 7 th Grade “0” Period Independent Art Zero Period Independent Art (IA) is open for 7 th graders interested in being considered for the course. There will be projects required to be considered for IA. The course meets 7:40-8:20 am on M-F for one semester. (2 nd semester) Because space is limited, the process to get in is very competitive. Typically a student will complete 5-8 pieces of work. Periodically, IA students will be asked to create a piece of work to use in the school. Please see Mrs. Regas/LBMS Art Teacher or visit the LBMS Homepage for the form listing criteria. The assignments are due on May 28, 2015. Late assignments will not be accepted. 9 What to expect with the scheduling procedure? REQUIRED CORE CURRICULUM * ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language, Exploratory. Continued Progression Math: 7 th graders taking Algebra I will take Honors Geometry in 8 th grade Most 7 th grade students that take Math 7B/8 will take Algebra I in 8 th Math 7 students typically go to Math 8. However, they can qualify for advancement. 7 th graders taking GT-LA will take 8 th grade GT-LA Choices to be made: World Language, Exploratory - “Music vs Non Music Option”
