1 Programming Guide A guide to a successful semester!

2 Procedure Programming ideas  Utilize wikispace, internet, RD staff, and fellow RA’s for ideas  Try new programs  Be CREATIVE! Discuss program ideas with AC/SRA  Fill out a funding request form (if needed)  Building staff meetings  All staff meetings Create Publicity  At least 1 week prior to event  Catchy, TYPED, Colorful, Creative! Night of Event  Ensure all supplies needed are gathered BEFORE event  Take attendance (Students must sign their own name on sheet!)  Immediately following event fill out program evaluation form, and have it ready to submit to AC/SRA.

3 Budgets In order to receive funds for program  A funding request form MUST be completed a week PRIOR to the actual event.  Funding will not be provided without completion of a funding request form Once the funding form is submitted, your request will be reviewed and you will be notified whether your request has been granted or not  Failure to submit a funding form will result in no reimbursement from the ResLife department This form can be found on Wikispace!

4 Programming, what is required… 3 social programs 2 Weekend programs  ResLife Weekend Programs Each RA/SRA is required to sign up for a program, plan the program, and execute the program on the assigned date. See List of programs & dates 1 Community service program  See Maria Fanning’s list of events  Student Senate’s Highway Clean-up First/Second Year Experience Buildings

6 Evaluations and Attendance Program Evaluation Forms  Complete proper paperwork immediately following program Attendance sheet Student Feedback Form Program evaluation  Attach a copy of publicity (flyer, poster, whatever used)  Attach attendance sheet  Attach receipt Along with funding form and any left over funds (if applicable)  Submit all paperwork to AC/SRA  All of these forms can be found on Wikispace!

7 Social Program Social programs  A planned event intended to help residents get to know one another and promote community development within your hall  Social Program ideas: Game night Movie night Pizza Party  These programs can be targeted to a specific floor, or opened to the entire building

8 Educational Program Educational programs  A planned event intended to teach students something or provide important information on a relevant topic Examples  Study tips  Resume writing  Go Green campaign  Cookie baking  Dance lessons  Jewelry making

9 Community Service Program  This is an event that you plan that brings the students out of their rooms, and helps out the local communities in one way or another. Maria Fanning is a great contact person for community service programs and events Student Senate hosts Highway Clean-up Thanksgiving Dinner 2012  Residence Life Department will be attending this event (required)

10 Weekend Programs Weekend Programming  Each RA will be assigned 2 weekend programs that he/she is responsible for planning, organizing, publicizing, and attending  Every RA is encouraged to attend the weekend program, but you are only responsible for attending the 2 weekend programs assigned to you  You are able to switch weekend programs with another RA, ONLY IF: You and the person you switch with have an understanding of the requirements of the program You notify the SRA/AC that is on duty that weekend You fill out an RA switch form (Just like you would if you were switching on duty dates)

11 Departmental Programs Departmental Programming  This is programming that is designed to incorporate the entire Residence Life staff. The Independent living crew is responsible for planning, organizing, and running this event. How it will work  Independent Living RA’s will meet and choose a topic for the month from a list of ideas provided by AC Bobby  They will then develop a few ideas of how the topic should be presented They will also create a needs list, personnel list, and timeline in preparation for the event and submit that to AC Bobby  Once the program has begun to develop, the Independent living RA’s will present their plan of action to the entire ResLife staff during a monthly staff meeting  At the meeting The Independent Living crew will:  Assign other RA’s to specific tasks from their list  Gather more insight and ideas from the entire staff  Pick a date for the program
